Bryan Allen vs. Zack Smith

These two drop the gloves in the corner in the Panthers' end, Allen throwing a few rights as Smith pushes him up against the glass. Smith throws a big looping punch that may or may not have landed, it was hard to tell due to bad camera work, but then Allen responds with a few more rights before switching hands. He throws a couple of punches before leaning on Smith and they fall to the ice, Allen throwing a few punches from the ice for good measure.

Edge/Win Allen for being more active. He didn't really land any big shots, but controlled the fight at the very least. Smith didn't really throw too much.

As the game was winding down there was a bit of a melee involving Neil, McCabe, Ruutu and company. Neil threw the mitts down and got the jump on a Panther along the boards before McCabe jumped in and tackled him from behind. A large scrum ensued with what looked to be Olesz throwing some knees at Chris Neil from the bottom of the pile. After all was said and done, Neil, McCabe and Ruutu all received misconducts, while Neil also received a couple of minors. Note: Jesse Winchester was injured by a knee on knee collision earlier in the game.

Bryan Allen vs. Zack Smith

They come together along the boards in the corner of the Florida zone and drop the mitts.

This was nearly all Allen, as Smith was not able to get anything going. Allen threw about 6-7 punches, only landing maybe one or two, while Smith landed one overhand right.

Allen finishes off the fight with a punch to the gut while Smith was on his knees on the ice.

Allen was far more active, but didn't land much.

Edge Allen.

Edge Allen.

Smith landed one really good right, probably the best shot of the fight, and another that might have connected, but Allen controlled it better with his size and was more active. No one really did any damage though.

What exactly happened with Winchester? Was it a dirty hit? Was he the one throwing the hit?

Winchester went in behind the net where Keith Ballard was, and it looked like an innocent enough hit. I believe it was just an attempted hit where Winchester fell awkwardly.

I don't think Smith's punch landed, but the momentum of the punch nearly put Allen off balance. That was basically the only punch Smith attempted. Good to see him get involved in his first game up. I really like Smith, he's a spark plug, and he is way better than Bass.

Winchester was trying to throw a hit on the fore check and somehow his knee made contact awkwardly. He was helped off the ice in significant pain. It wasn't dirty, it was just an awkward collision.

I think it landed, but it wasn't a clean hit, more of a glancing blow. I'll give him credit though, he gave up some size and was trying to spark his team, which played pathetic in the first two periods. He's a better player, and probably fighter than Bass. I've only seen the vids from his Bingo fights, but he definitely seems to have improved a lot since he turned pro.

The best thing is, Murray is apparently a big fan of the guy, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he has a full time role soon enough.

****ty to hear about Winchester. I'm not a huge fan, but the guy can throw some big hits. On the plus side, Smith plays a similar role, so maybe he'll be slotted into Winchester's spot.

Winchester is one of the only guys on the team who can or is even willing to win a battle for the puck in the corner. It would be a big loss if he is to miss any playing time.

He didn't look very good when the trainers were coming onto the ice. Even Ballard knew it, and immediately signaled to the refs.

He's great along the boards, but he almost seems like Laraque. He'll come out with the puck, but is unsure of what to do with it. I think his physicality will be missed the most, he's been more physical than Ruutu, and anyone on the team not named Neil and maybe Fisher.

Smith looked awkward and slow in this one. I except him to do a little better next time. Not a great fight.

The scrum near the end was basically Neil wanting to stir some **** up, Campbell I believe gave a little harmless slash to Volchenkov and Neil attacked him, McCabe sees this and came to the aid of his friend by jumping Neil from behind, Ruutu did the same to McCabe and soon after had him in a headlock. McCabe was pissed and was mouthing with Ruutu after this.

Not a highlight reel showing by any means, but after some rough efforts earlier this season, I thought Allen picked up a narrow win in this scrap over smith.

Smith's legs looked a little rubbery, Allen looked to be overpowering him.
edge to Allen.
