The turnaround started with Dorsett, who paid a stiff price for starting what he thought was going to be a fight with Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson a few moments after Filppula’s goal. The timing was poor – Dorsett and Ericsson squared off as the Jackets, unbeknownst to Dorsett, were flinging the puck around the Red Wings zone in a threatening fashion. And then, “Tootoo thought he’d come in swinging,” said Dorsett, who said the engagement wasn’t a proper fight and probably tainted his Gordie Howe hat trick.

“You think you’re fighting a 6-5 Ericsson and then Jordin Tootoo comes in and sucker punches you. But that’s just Jordin Tootoo. You expect those kind of things from him.”

The shot from Tootoo bloodied Dorsett’s nose, which appeared askew afterward (“It’s probably broken,” Dorsett said after the game.).

“(Ericsson) and I were backing away. Tootoo was just being himself, being the cheap player that he is and coming in swinging. In my eyes, that should be a suspension. Those are the type of things that they’re trying to get out of the game but he’s an irrelevant player, so it doesn’t even matter.”

Dorsett's been beat up by everyone and their dog. He's out looking for a fight and knows where to look but chooses to try engage a guy who fights once in a blue moon.(9 times in 5 years) Deserved the twisted beak. Maybe Jordin will nice enough to straighten it for him on 3-9-13.

it's quite simple, if you throw the first punch at someone how can it be considered a jump... DD threw and Tootoo put him on his ass. This isn't differential equations or Lagrangian mechanics.

I think Ericsons body language at the end of the fight tells a different story. He looked like he thought he was going to fight.

Was it a "jump job"? No, I already retracted that statement, but Dorsett was clearly trying to fight Erickson, who looked more than willing.

I just think it was a cheap move by Tootoo, but he did answer the bell when Jarod Boll came looking, so it's over and done with.

Tootoo charges into most of his fights. That's no secret. If Dorsett doesn't know the book on him, he should look it up. Tootoo rearranges Dorsett's honker, and gets the win here. I thought Dorsett might have hit more of the linesman than he did Tootoo when they were down on the ice.
