Atlanta at Ottawa 11/9/10

Vote: Eric Boulton vs Matt Carkner Nov 9, 2010
YouTube - Eric Boulton vs Matt Carkner Nov...

The Senators were up 5-2 late in the game, and on an Atlanta PP, Big Buff was shoving Mike Fisher in front of the benches. Matt Carkner skated over to issue the challenge, and Buff declined. The play continued on, and Carkner went to play the puck in the corner behind the Ottawa net, where Boulton found him and issued the challenge.

Matt Carkner vs. Eric Boulton

They dropped the mitts and started exchanging lefts. This fight was shot from an awkward angle behind Carkner, but Bolts was landing some heavy shots which staggered Carkner a little bit, while Matt's punches were for the most part missing their mark or hitting shoulder. Boulton landed a series of flush punches which caused Matt to recoil, and he stopped throwing. Carkner started trying to change hands, but lost his balance and went down to the ice with Boulton throwing some overhand shots on the way down.

Win Boulton in an okay fight. It certainly took Boulton a while to get involved. He landed the harder, cleaner punches in this bout.

Eager was invisible after his first shift.

Okay fight? That was a great fight and I agree with you, too late for Boulton to get something going.

It was a pretty good fight, but not the qualify of some of the battles we've seen over the years between Neil and Boulton. This would have been better shot from a cleaner angle. Hopefully Atlanta's feed shows it from the side boards and not from behind the net.

Good to see Boulton step up despite how late it was in the 3rd. He showed some gumption finding Carkner instead of Neil, and certainly got the better of the scrap. Boulton landed a series of 3 solid punches causing Carkner to recoil.

The size mismatch was pretty clear as you could barely see Boulton from behind Carkner.

No local TV from Atlanta, just the Sens feed . Yeah that camera angle was pretty freaking bad. Neil and Boulton also had a good scrap last year as well.

I thought it was a pretty decent scrap. I think Boulton landed better and appeared to stagger Carkner once. Ottawa fans on their site are bashing Carkner for fighting, what a bunch of ****in homo's. Win or lose Carkner sure likes to chuck'em wide open. He'll get caught a few times this year. Pretty impressed so far. In the A he was spot picking huggy bear, but has changed his ways up in the big leagues.

That's too bad.

I agree, those two match up very well, and I was looking forward to another in their series. After this fight, Buff was pumped on the bench as Boulton went to the dressing room, Neil was seen barking at Atlanta players from the bench.

No surprise there, Ottawa fans are for the most part a bunch of wet blankets. I actually read a post from you the other day saying that you thought Carkner should pick his spots more. Going back a couple of years, that is pretty funny. It's good to see Matt "The Picker" has changed your mind, you had a pretty good hate on for him while he was in the AHL.

Never thought he'd get a regular shift. Carkner is doing ok...he may not win every fight but he is entertaining....about picking his spots l mean when it comes to Orr, if Orr isn't willing to go early why fight him at the end of the game when you have played 18 minutes and the other guy 4 minutes. Same could be said tonight but atleast it made it worth while to watch...

Agreed. Would have been nice if they stayed right in front of the camera, but once they moved the angle sucked. Hard to tell what landed by either guy, but it sure looks like Boults staggered him at the end for the win.

What happened to Boulton. He used to be an awful fighter and mostly boring. Over the last few years he has really improved and rarely loses. He has become one of my favorite fighters.

It looked more like Byfuglien wanted to dance, but Carkner had more intent of playing the puck that was coming his way. Wouldn't call it a Byfuglien/Carkner turning down either. Shortly thereafter Byfuglien went to the bench.

Boulton with the win in a fun scrap. Too bad he waited to long to get involved. Boulton picks up his first 5 penalty minutes of the SEASON.
