As far as Top 10, I guess I was being a bit sarcastic, given how quickly some are inclined to 'crown' an up and comer heavy (i.e Big Mac after his bout with a washed up Vandermeer and Fritz's decision over an aging Laraque).

Scott is looking promising, but I eagerly await the return of Minny's true resident heavy: Boogaard.
No matter who or when they replace boogie is going to have a difficult job for numerous reasons.

I already like John Scott...but can somebody of the Wild fans give some insight on him?

He is listed as a d-man but he squared of as a winger with Parros, does he play defense in Minnesota? Is he just a fighter for the Wild or do they plan him to be a physical d-man? How good is he as an overall player?

The Wild has some injuries (Boogie among them), and almost all are to forwards. The blue line is healthy, so Richards has moved Scott to provide a band-aid up front. I'm sure Scott will move back as soon as the forwards get healthy.

Scott was a late call-up last year, and the old regime signed him to a one-way contract. Brought some toughness to a notoriously soft bunch of d-men. He showed some promise last year, but really seems like more of a project to me. Word out of Houston is that Scott is a pretty reluctant fighter. Meaning he will occasionally drop 'em, but he really doesn't like to fight.

John Scott is a fairly new comer still and is playing forward in Boogaard's absence. He is a defensive defenseman who fights, but doesn't like to do it. This offseason, he has been working with Boogaard to improve his fighting. I know he has said this year he will do anything it takes to stay up with the big club, which includes fighting when needed. He is a good substitute for now, but I don't think he is the answer the wild is looking for. Until John Scott gets in a few more fights this year, I still consider "Sheriff" Shane Hnidy as Boogaard's backup.

John Scott vs George Parros 10/06/09

These two big enforcers faced off with one another in last night game between the Wild and the Ducks. Parros is a big enforcer standing at 6'5'' and weighing around 16 and a half stone, but he is still smaller than Scott who stands at 6'8'' and weighs in at around 18 and a quarter stone.

Parros has been the Ducks enforcer for the last 3 seasons and this will be his 5th season overall in the NHL. He's a win some, lose some heavyweight fighter but on his day he has been able to beat some real big name guys. Guys like Brian McGrattan, Eric Godard, Jody Shelley and Derek Boogaard who are all top quality fighters have lost to Parros in the past.... Parros style of fighting in a lot of fights is to hold guys out with the left arm while throwing straight right crosses. Parros also has balance issues and falls down prematurely in quite a few fights.

Scott made it to the NHL at the end of last season and has looked like a decent enough heavyweight fighter so far. He's yet to lose a fight in his short NHL career and while in the minors he fought guys like Mitch Fritz, D.J King and Jon Mirasty and more than held his own. Scott has also beaten guys you would expect a decent heavyweight to beat like Andre Deveaux, Eric Neilson, Hans Benson, Daniel Bois and Jared Boll.... Scott uses his massive reach well in fights holding guys out with the left arm and throwing the long powerful right hands. It's also starting to look like he may have so proper power in his right hand after dropping a few guys already this year with big rights. Scott could be a guy to look out for this season, and Derek Boogaard could possible lose his place to this guy as the Wilds main enforcer in the future.

Here's my fight review

Quote:
George Parros and John Scott dropped the gloves with one another early in the 3rd period of this game, and they then squared off near centre ice.

Parros was quick to close the distance on Scott but as he came within range of Scott, Scott threw and landed a solid left jab right on the face of Parros. Scott then quickly threw a right hand as well but this punch only caught Parros shoulder so no damage was done.

Parros then flicked out a few left handed jersey jabs and Scott threw another right hand at Parros, but neither guy landed anything from these punches. Scott then threw another three right hands at Parros but again all these punches fell short as Parros made sure to lean away as Scott was throwing these punches.

Parros then threw a couple of right hands at Scott but both these punches looked to fall short of the target. Parros then attempts to grab a hold of Scott's right hand but was unable to control it and Scott threw another two rights at Parros landing one of these punches.

Both guys then held each other out for a second or two before Scott used his left forearm as a weapon. Scott hit Parros across the face with the forearm and this helped Scott tie Parros up perfectly for the big right cross which Scott landed flush on Parros chin. Parros then dropped to the ice and the two lino's quickly jumped in to end the fight.

Scott showed that he is a genuine heavyweight in the NHL by beating Parros convincingly in this fight and if he keeps this up Boogaard could be out of a job as the Wilds main enforcer. Scott controlled Parros with the left arm while throwing right hands and dropping Parros with the final punch.

TKO win Scott

I definitely wasn't expecting this fight to go this way. Scott landed a real nice punch to drop Parros and pick up the win.

Derek who? Scott did a nice impression of a pre-injured Boogaard by highlight-reeling his opponent.

As of this morning, some already have listed Scott in their Top 10 in the Best Fighter thread.....

Not often Stache looks small, but Scott dwarfed him. After the initial left that stuns Parros it is all Scott for the eventual KD win. Stache never even got going....

That was a big win for Big John Scott! The Stache needs to man-up after that one. Mustachioed men everywhere are hanging their heads in shame today!

I dont think I would go as far as saying it was a TKO. I think it was more of a KO.
