Rangers are super tough now and Matt Martin is going to have his hands full with middle weights and light heavies now. Haley would've been good help for him.

But at least we have Carkner. I've been wanting him for 2 years now. Big mean tough defensemen who can play minutes. We've needed that for a long time now. Probably the first player we've had like this since Eric Cairns. The "cairns" type of defensemen is something I think we've sorely missed.

A pretty good day for us, but I wouldn't mind a a top six forward and a d-man though. Garth addressed the toughness situation, but Haley to the rags hurts.

Losing Haley to the Rags hurts. I have a feeling he won't see much NHL time with them anyway though.

Carkner and Boulton is awesome though. Boyes is low risk, high reward.

We need to go after a top 6 forward though. Throw something huge at Bobby Ryan. We could still use another D-man since we just lost Reese too.

God it sucks seeing Haley sign with the Rangers.

The toughness additions of the day sure seem awesome. I'm honestly skeptical how much of Boulton we'll end up seeing this season though. Hopefully Carkner is at least able to stay healthy and keep a roster spot. But I have a sinking feeling we may end up seeing both Boulton and Carkner in either press box or AHL, while Matt Martin is once again forced to be the lone regular source of toughness in the lineup.

We knew Parenteau was going to be gone. And even though I like the Boyes signing, he's not going to fill the void. The Islanders need more offensive help.

I'd also like to see another legitimate NHL-caliber defenseman under contract, especially with Reese going to Pitt.

I don't know about Carkner. We have 4 d right now and I think at 1.5 mil he'll be playing regularly. I'm not so sure about Boulton though.

I agree we really need more offensive help.

Maybe Parise is taking so long to sign with a team because the Islanders have thrown such a good offer at him he's really thinking about coming here but is extremely hesitant and can't figure out if he should take the better deal and go to the islanders or take the lesser deal and go with a team with a more secure and brighter future.

i was a little excited with these signing, but after going over a potential 2012 roster, i'm still very concerned. the isles still have major offensive problems... i'm not so sure this season will be better than last year.
