Off Season 2012 thread

Oh boy...

Gillies gone, no sign of Haley and just read that PAP is going to FA. As much as I **** on the guy, there's no way the Isles are replacing that offense. Looks like this is going to be one ****ty off season.

Another thing that makes no sense: Katic going to Germany. A team with no d-depth lets him go to Europe. Hmm, something's up.

i'll tell you this..by not resigning PAP, the isles offense will be in trouble. now, loookin at the draft...can they really afford reaching on a DMAN (assuming Murray is gone). this offseason seems worse than last season. how in the **** is that even possible?

nyislesfan45 06-21-2012 03:22 PM

They have nothing that free agents want so I can't imagine anything good happening by letting Pap go. How are they even planning on hitting the cap floor without getting anyone serious? Or an even crazier though, how about going for a playoff spot? What a joke of a sports franchise this is.

Hagstrom 06-22-2012 02:30 PM

Ya, I have no idea what they're doing. Why/how would they let PAP go, I don't get it. The already crappy d-corp is even sparser now. This season is going to be even worse than the last one.

At least we won't be looking forward to the season like so many were last year.

They are not fooling anybody and some people claim 35 percent of season ticket holders have not renewed yet.

Hagstrom 06-22-2012 03:07 PM

I guess that's true, at least. No illusions this year.

i usually really look forward to this day. today, i'm just not feeling it.

There's just nothing to get excited about. A couple of seasons ago we seemed to be (slowly) going in a good direction. Now, in about 1 seasons time, we seem to be going back in the other direction and it's all just compounded by the fact that we don't have any clue as to what the team's future will be. It's just a really depressing time to be a die hard Islanders fan right now. At least in the past we were still delusional enough to get excited and have hope around this time. But now you can't even pretend to be optimistic about the improvement/future of this team. Sucks.

Well, acquired Lubomir Visnovsky for a 2nd round pick, just now

Hagstrom 06-22-2012 07:42 PM

and drafted Griffin Reinhart

BobNystromOwnsU 06-22-2012 08:04 PM

If they can somehow get a second line center, it might just be a good offseason.

nyislesfan45 06-22-2012 10:06 PM

We still need a top 4 d-man and a top line RW to replace Pap. Still no hope for the off season from me. Reinhart seems good but you can't rush an 18 year old kid again, we've all seen it already.

Did you miss the trade for Visnovsky?

He's a top 4 guy, right?

GODARDNYI 06-22-2012 11:06 PM

i'd say he is. he's without a doubt an upgrade to what they had.

BobNystromOwnsU 06-23-2012 01:08 AM

Sign one more guy for depth, re-sign Reese, bring up one the kids and we have a pretty good blue line.
