why does detroit always wait?

everytime the day arrives for trades to be made, detroit always waits till the freakin last second to do anything. by this point all the good players are gone. they could of had orr. they could of had a few tough guys out there. but noooo! not detroit. lets just sit on our butts and wait until a nice, offensive 115lb player comes along that we can pick up instead.

mitchell "dirty harry" callahan better bring his "A" game come training camp.

Im sure they made offers dude. Neil wasnt even close to worth THAT much. Orr wouldve been great as well as Brash, but Toronto and NYR just put the bigger offer on the table. Even if they dont grab someone right away, they will play the AHL system. Id rather get a surprise of (for example) Kevin Westgarth showin up than find out we picked up an overpriced aged part time scrapper.
Im not bummed out about them not getting anything at this current moment. Theres still quite a few quality ones out there.

Yeah maybe you should just settle down. It's not there fault they weren't gonna pay Orr 1ml/yr for 4 years. They won't dress a enforcer on a nightly basis to pay him that much. So basically...they couldn't have gotton Orr without over paying.

And where have you read they have not tried to snatch anyone today?

Lappy, was worth his price, But i'am sure he'd rather go to Philly then Detroit anyday, considering they play his style and he wouldn't want to be considered a traitor.

Hossa, Kopecky, and Conklin are gone. Detroit isn't bringing back Samuelsson and Chelios. Hudler is a RFA, but there aren't any reports of teams making a counter offer. I'm sure Holland will try to get him to sign a new contract. Therefore, that will eat up some of the gap remaining under the cap.

According to this, Detroit was involved in some capacity with trying to sign Colton Orr.

There are a few 3rd/4thy line scrappers still remaining, like Travis Moen. Aaron Downey was invited to training camp 2 years ago, and made the cut. And he's still available. Who knows what will pan out as the summer rolls along.

Justin Abdelkader is apparantly going to have to make the roster a year early because Holland is useless when it comes to free agency.

Ah well...at least we get another fighter in team to take the total up to two.

Reading that Hudler is going to arbitration, this could leave Detroit with about 46 cents in cap room to sign a significant amount of players...

I haven't seen it posted here, but apparently the Wings signed Kris Newbury and Jeremy Williams.. it's been posted in a few leafs/marlies forums.. it isn't much.. but Newbury will probably see the pre-season and a few games if there is an injury situation.

Well apparantly they would trade either Brett Lebda or Derek Meech to free up some cap space if Lilja ever returns.

With your guys' cap situation, I don't think you could have shelled out $1 milllion per year for a guy like Orr. If you really want a tough guy, there's plenty out there. It's just a matter of making that decision to carry one.
