Tough Guys with Talent

I don't wanna see any Iginla comments here.

I'm talkin enforcers who can play a regular shift and fight the heavies and not be liabilities when they're out there.

I'm gonna throw Shawn Thornton out there.

Umm, most older tough guys could play...it's the new heavies that seem to have issues.

ii dont mean older i mean older in todays game, ie peters godard shelly, theres a trend with teams trying to bring in more lightheavys who can play like boll and stortini but still handle bussiness when needed, i do realize that 10 years ago all the tough guys could play a regular shift and wish it was still that way. but the way things aree going it will be the same in 5 or so years

lucic is the best out there right now easily. i really like clowe as well. neither are really "heavies" but i think they qualify.

I agree Lucic has the best skills along with the best supporting cast. Clarkson can also do alot more then fight. Souray is older but he can surely take care of his own, Lappy doesn't dominate fights, but he gets the bench fired up he is effective in a lot of areas. unfortunately there are not a lot of tough, 2 way players that were around in the day. today the game is different, its goals, goals, and more goals. the blue chippers from back in the day are a mere memory-
Neeley
Mcsorley
Lindros
Stevens
McCarty
Tocchet
Shanahan
to name a few, tough to compare todays players with these

well im not sure about this one but todd fedoruk he used to be a solid top ten heavy but after getting KO'd a bunch of times he now has gotten rid of the fighter roll and more of a regular shift

About 3 years ago Fedoruk would be number one on this list. Too bad things went so downhill for him.

Yeah i'd agree in the fighter category things went downhill for him but the fact that hes played 500 games and plays a regular shift when his role was initially to go out and throw his body around and fight...

personally I think he would have been better off always being a number 2 guy, and i'm sure everyone will agree because he can actually skate and could throw HUGE hits, something a lot of 'fighters' lack the ability to do... he should have been the one throwing huge hits, standing up for himself, but also not the one fighting the guys based on the name on the their jersey
