My current top 10 is...
1 Georges Laraque 2 Brian McGrattan 3 Donald Brashear 4 Derek Boogaard 5 Wade Belak 6 Andrew Peters 7 Colton Orr 8 D.J. King 9 Eric Godard 10 George Parros Laraque - hasn't been clearly beaten in 3 years, controversial "TKO loss" to Brashear, but not enough to put Brashear into #1. McGrattan - his only loss in the last 2 years came to Laraque, he can lock out and out land any other heavyweight. Wins against Brashear in their last two fights puts him in #2 spot. Brashear - hasn't been able to beat Laraque in recent years and has lost his last 2 fights with McGrattan which is why I have him lower, his dominance over all other heavyweights keeps him safely in the top 3 for now. Boogaard - hasn't been able to beat Laraque and hasn't had the opportunity to beat Brashear or McGrattan in recent years, he is the most devastating fighter in the league but occasional losses to guys like Koci, Parros, and Godard will keep him out of top 3 territory. Belak - doesn't get enough play time but has the ability to hold his own and beat anyone in the league. In recent years he has had the edge over other top 10 guys like Orr, Peters, and Parros but hasn't had an opportunity to take on Godard or King. I still feel that Belak is established enough to hold a top 5 spot and until Orr, Peters, Godard, or King can start coming up with consistent wins against other top heavies, Belak will hold his ground in the top 5. Peters - two pour showings against Cote, a loss to McGrattan, and two very slight edges over Parros (IMO). He is currently in the top based on past years, he's proved he can hang with McGrattan, Brashear, and Belak, but he has been falling off the radar recently and knocked himself out of top 5 territory. Maybe he should get back on the roids...? Orr - narrow loss to Belak, narrow win against Belak (IMO). He continues to beat up on lesser fighters but can't touch top 5 guys... he has been going back and forth with Belak for a couple years battling for a spot somewhere from 5th to 8th but hasn't done enough to securely put himself ahead of Belak. King - his only 2 losses since he came to the NHL were against Boogaard and I'm really excited to see where King really stands... but last night he was beat by a lesser heavyweight in Barch and that makes it easier for me to list him at #8... I expect him to battle back and dominate the other heavyweights and eventually contend for a top 3 spot, but not yet Godard - he can hang with anyone, he dropped Boogaard last year and held his own twice against him. A couple years ago he had 3 great fights with McGrattan although McGrattan landed better. Poor showings this year against Parker twice, Semenov, and McCormick have hurt him a bit... his great toe to toe fight with D.J. King in which King landed slightly better is a good indication of where he stands... 1 spot behind King. Parros - can hang with anyone but isn't the greatest fighter, picked up a narrow win over Boogaard this year and is able to beat the heavyweights sitting just outside the top 10 (Shelley and Koci) which is enough to keep him in the top 10... for now |

So what has Orr not done to be in the top 6, or even top 5 for that matter? |

first fight - narrow win Orr (Orr busted him up but the fight itself was pretty even) second fight - clear win Belak (Belak controlled, Orr never got going) third fight - narrow win Belak fourth fight - draw (Belak early, Orr late, note: Belak got a nice jump on Orr) so I have it as Orr's 1-2-1 to Belak's 2-1-1. Belak can handle superheavies better than Orr in my opinion, and Belak has a tendency to avenge his losses. Orr can't find a way to hold his own with Laraque and Brashear like Belak can. I really like Orr and his wide open style, I hope eventually he is able to drop some big big names, but until then he's not a top 5 fighter. And I loved his fight with McGrattan but he didn't "at least" get a draw... at best he got a draw in that scrap. EDIT: I only have Peters over Orr for the time being because Peters beat Orr in their only fight last year and they haven't met this year... if Peters continues his pace, Orr will leapfrog him in no time at all Last edited by skacore; 01-11-2008 at 07:38 PM. |

I'm not saying Belak is better, but he certainly has longer and more productive fights than our 'champs'. And thanks, I am a funny guy.
