Top 3:
1.) Derek Boogaard
2.) Steve MacIntyre
3.) Colton Orr
So Rob, where do you put Godard given that he's dropped all 3 of those fighters in the last 3 years?

My first list of this season... My list carries on from the previous year but because a few guys have not fought yet and a few are no longer in the league there's a few new names on my top 10 to start the season...

Quote:
My list from last year
Boogaard
McGrattan
Orr
MacIntyre
Godard
Carkner
Belak
Brashear
Shelley
Hordichuk

Close to list... Scott , Thornton, King, Koci, Ivanans

This years early list

Boogaard -- Still the champ
MacIntyre
Orr
Godard
Carkner
Shelley
Thornton
Gillies
King
Engelland

Next -- Bissonnette, Scott, Westgarth, Boulton, Erskine..

So off my list is Gratts and Belak due to no fights, and Brash due to leaving league and Hordi due to a quiet start to the season.. They are replaced with Thornton, Gillies, Engelland and King... Still very early days but I expect my top 5 to stay never much the same this year if all get enough fights under their belts.

I still don't get why people put MacIntyre so high. What has he really done other than beat an aging Brash and knock out a lower tier HW? Again, I have to ask the question why do you put him above Godard? Godard also beat Brashear, and dropped MacIntyre, Orr, and Boogaard. Granted he was hurt last year and that hurt his activity but MacIntyre only had what? 5 fights last year? I just can't fathom how you can put a guy who has proven that, in the limited fights he has, will lose to the top dogs (which I consider Godard and Boogaard to be, with Orr close behind) higher than a guy who has proven time and time again to be one of the best. It just seems like everyone has such a boner for the guy but for me hes just overhyped, much like Engelland.

After this it is hard to list people. Belak might have a chance if he ever fought to make the back end of this list. Biz and Janssen are in the conversation as is Engelland. Shelley appears to be fading. As for Macyntire he has earned the number two spot because despite the loss to godard last year he beat brashear and orr and had a fierce slugfest draw with McGrattan. He also fared pretty well against boogaard in round 2 today.

Ok, so your justification for MacIntyre being higher than Godard is that he:

1) Beat Brashear last year (so did Godard)
2) Had a fierce slugfest draw with McGrattan (so did Godard)
3) Fared pretty well against Boogaard (Godard TKO'ed him)

All from a guy who got outworked and dropped by Godard.

How does he deserve to be above Godard?

I've made the same argument for Godard for a while to.. However last year Macintyre had a better season when you consider that he scored tkos/beatdowns over Orr and Brashear..While Godard went 5-3 and missed much of the season...Godard shows you in some fights that he is the best in the business and then takes a narrow loss to Thornton in his last fight..I would say it was a draw myself but you get the picture..Your judging Godard on his body of work over the years and forgetting that he has been in the top 5-6 the last few years but he has been to inactive and up and down to be considered in the top 2 right now...

The fight between Brashear and Godard last season was a draw and if anything a narrow win to Brashear, he landed more and better. McGrattan also beat Macintyre in their fight last year.

I think due to Godard's inactivity the past two seasons (this one included) is the main reason for his drop in the rankings. He also hasn't looked too good this year, but I still think he is one of the best fighters in the game.

I think it's way too early to say where everyone is ranked. We got to see more of the top guys fighting each other and more than once, before coming to a reasonable conclusion. It's only been 16 games in for most teams. I'd say by 40 games in and a lot of these guys fighting each other will make it more clear where everyone stands.

However there is now a very strong case for Boogaard being #1. After he gave a great showing against Macintyre, who's also has been highly considered as perhaps the best fighter. If I had to pick the best fighter from this early season so far, I guess it would be Boogaard.

But there a lot of fights still ahead of us. So will just got to wait and see in how things unfold.

I know Mac had a better season, but even if its a current top 10... that doesnt mean you disregard all past seasons in favor of just the one hes having/had. You have to look at it as a whole picture, its not like Godard has lost any fighting ability... just inactivity. Laraque stayed at the top long after he stopped fighting simply because of his reputation. And with Godard, you have a guy who doesn't win every fight but does win every big fight. He has beaten every top fighter which MacIntyre cannot claim, and until he can I can't see how you can justify putting him over a guy who has.
