If we base things on this season, it's hard to rank Brash as #1, IMO. Although record-wise it's not too bad, he's just not fighting enough. Same with Laraque.
Personally, there really isn't a TRUE #1 this season (w/o basing on prev seasons). I'd prob have it something along these lines: Disclaimer: As I know I'm gonna cop a lot of sh!t for this list, I'm basing this on THIS season ONLY. No "they haven't fought such-and-such" or anything like that, bcoz most of the "old nhl" fighters aren't fighting, or much at all. Not only that, but most of these could easily be inter-changed too, W-L-D based on HF votes, not incl. preseason) #1: Vacant (No-one can truly be called #1 this year yet IMO) #2: McGrattan 11-5-4-2 (Closest to #1 ATM I think, decent record against what is this year a good card, mostly this rank based on volume and losses being close and against good fighters. Not a true #2, but best for it ATM IMO) #3: Godard 8-3-1-4 (Great card and starting to really make a push for being #1, IMO. Great fights too. Almost ranked above Gratts) #4: Boogaard 8-5-2-1 (Great wins, but big losses to Brash & Laraque prevent him from being higher, IMO.) #5: Fedoruk 6-4-0-2 (Not the best card, but still fighting strong) #6: Orr 5-3-1-1 (Only loss is to Cairns. Two big wins in there too. Shame we don't see him anymore) #7: Vandermeer 4-3-0-1 (Two big victories against Downey & Flinn, for those, and lack of other choices mostly, Vandy gets a spot) #8: Laraque 4-3-0-1 (Destroyed May & Boogey, drew Godard. It's enuff to get him in a "new nhl" top 10 this season) #9: Boulerice 5-2-2-1 (I'm running out of options for a top 10. Boulerice good showing against Grats, but losing to Boulton not too good. Still potential) #10: Brookbank 5-3-1-1 (Like Boulerice, potential is there for a solid spot in top #10, but ATM is more to make up the numbers. Would like to see him fight a few more times) What happened to.....?? Brashear 3-1-1-1 (With this record, despite destruction of Boogey, can he honestly be ranked in the ten?) Domi 4-1-2-0 (1 N/D) (Domi's fall from grace has been well documented on here) Belak 3-1-2-0 (Something's def amiss with Wade this year, he was borderline or in most top 10's last season, big downfall) Cairns 3-1-2-0 (Three great fights, record is no shame to have for Big E given that Godard and Gratts ARE the top fighters this year) Neil 3-3-0-0 (2xGill, 1xweak-Belak, what a pity. But at least he's scoring goals unlike the other fighter-turned-players *cough* brashear *cough* simon) Well, that's my long-winded Top 10 type post. As I said before, I've decided to only include this season, so pls, when disputing my picks, keep that in consideration. Although I still rank Brash as a top fighter, and a win/loss/draw against him very seriously, this season, he's just not yet in my top 10 due to inactivity and record. Include most of last season's top 10 in that comment too.

1. Brashear- Only one loss to a great up and comer
2. Laraque- Beat down Boogaard and revived his career 3. Godard- Could be #1 by the end of the end of the season, beat or tied the top 3 heavys in the NHL. Brashear, Cairns and Laraque. Just needs a win against McGratton to claim top spot. 4. McGratton- Very strong rookie year with a couple of notable wins against Godard. 5. Fedoruk- Not much of a fight card but tough as hell. Made Brookbank look like a school girl. 6. Boogaard- Great start to the season but was put in his place by Georges Laraque. 7. Cairns- Declining fast. 8. Orr- Beat Belak giving him a broken nose, great up and comer. 9. Boulerice- Too many up's and downs but getting a pretty good fight card. 10. No one yet..... |
