Most liked/disliked enforcer by their peers?

What do you think? The most liked/respected fighter and the least liked by other enforcers. I don't really know. May be Parro as well liked (I realize he is academic too) and Orr as least liked?

Is that your own personal list? Because I think you're missing the point of his topic...

I think Thornton, Neil, and Parros are the most liked/respected amongst other fighters.

At the other end of the spectrum, I'm going out on a limb and say Rinaldo because he's a pest too. As for heavyweights I'll say Rupp because of his comments towards Shelley last year. It probably didn't sit well with his peers.

How can Chris Neil be included in the most liked enforcers?

He's one of the most despised players in the league, he has a terrible reputation for being dirty, and he's a yapper which most other enforcers don't like.

I'd say that Neil is the least liked unless I'm terribly missing something.

I think Parros gets respect, Thornton does, usually the guys who don't jump anyone, fight with somewhat of a code meaning they don't hit you when you're down, stop swinging when the linesmen get in, etc. The guys who do that will get more respect than others.

I think Orr, Scott, Bordeleau, Carkner, and McGrattan will get a different kind of respect, more of a fear factor but all 5 seem to be pretty straight up fellows who aren't dirty unless they have to be like Carkner with Boyle in the playoffs and then Neil being the douche he is by continuing to go after him despite Carkner settling the score already. Neil has no code and even less honor, he's hurt quite a few guys too.

Neil is probably the one guy I'd love to see get his ass kicked really bad but he never does. He's a tough sum bitch and a good fighter but he takes it too far and yaps, other guys hate that.

There is absolutely no way of knowing this unless you polled every "enforcer" in the league.

What I do know is that Brian McGrattan is very good friends with both Shawn Thornton and Milan Lucic off the ice. He became friends with both of them during his brief team as a member of the Bruins organization, and that friendship continues to this day. As a matter of fact, I saw Lucic and McGrattan with Lucic's wife and another girl at a restaurant in Boston during the lockout. I get the impression that McGrattan is very well liked among his peers. Never heard anybody say a bad thing about the guy.

Two of my friends ran into John Scott once. Apparently he's a nice and great guy. And just last weekend one of my old exes ran into Dan Carcillo and she said he's a great guy. She even texted me a photo of them hugging.
But I know that's not the point of this thread.

Most enforcers are humble ppl, they rarely speak out against one another. You pose a tough question, I doubt most of us know the answers.

I had a severely handicapped nephew who pretty much spent 2006 in and out of Ohio's children's hospital. Jody Shelley came to visit him several times, got him box seats for games twice and sent him two Blue Jackets jerseys, one signed by the whole team. Even when he was with the Sharks, he came to the hospital when little Jake was back having surgery in 2009 and have him a Sharks jersey and got Jake's favorite player Joe Thornton to talk to him over Shelley cell phone. When Jake passed away, Shelley sent my brother and sister in law a letter saying he was sad for our loss, but glad he got to know Jake. I never even found out how he knew.

Shelley is one of the greatest guys every to play hockey.

I'm pretty sure he's done things like that for other sick and dying kids as well.

Not sure if this is what you meant by most respected tough guys, but there isn't an athlete I respect more than Jody Shelley.

I'd say that McGrattan is the most liked. You can find "haters" on just about every other fighter for one reason or another, but usually not Gratts. Infancy, he's so revered here that he is still thought of as champ by some despite only having 6 fights in like 3 seasons.

Edit: didn't see the "by his peers" part. Oh well.

I totally agree. Enforcers hate big talkers.

Good stuff by Shelley. When he played junior hockey in Halifax i remember him being very involved in the community. He would frequent the IWK hospital and visit the sicks kids. A great ambassador to the game.

I would put Boll in the disliked category, i thought I heard some things a while back about people saying they didn't like him much?
