How is that statement fishing for a reaction? I already acknowledged that I enjoyed what Marty did. I thought Brash deserved it....and I stand by that.

I think mikebflorida put it best in this latest round of arguments over Brashear. He didn't fight to win, he fought not to lose. That for me is enough to knock him out of the top 5, and maybe even top 10.
I didn't see the huggy bear nickname pop up until his later years, but then again I also joined the site in 2005. Brashear was an intimidating presence who, at his peak, played his role the way it was meant to be played. He took on all comers and rarely took a beating. He was the heavyweight champ for years, but again that's just my opinion. I'm not trying to make my case as much as I am trying to point out how exaggerated and generalized your arguments against him are.

Not that part. The part about creating entertainment in a game that otherwise would have seen Vancouver unceremoniously bleed the clock. Thank God for Marty McSorley! Otherwise the game would have just had a normal ending!

Lol....

"Huggy bear" isn't a nickname, it's an insult to lessen his fighting skills by people that don't like him. Similar to "Lu-chicken" for Lucic.

I'm not sure if the Hockey News has any respect around here, but they did give him the Enforcer of the Decade award in 2010.

Funny...I'd think the former statement would draw the ire of Brash homers more than that. I still don't see the "fishing for a reaction" part of that statement....because I referred to the situation as entertaining? I don't think anyone shut their TV off when that happened.

I don't think anyone is questioning his enforcing capabilities, more so his heart/technique.

I won't argue with you if you think Brashear deserved it for two reasons: I'm not a "Brash homer" and I can't change your mind.

This is going back way before then. I did point out he had a few good bouts, but they were few and far between. I've been making the same arguments for years as have others. Not exaggerated or generalized when it's the truth. I'm not making or backing up racist statements like you have in babblin. The footage doesn't lie, but keep drinking the Brash kool aid if that makes you happy.

You're right, "a Brashear highlight reel is a cure for insomnia" is not exaggerated nor a generalization.

For the record, Craig Berube, Dave Brown, Riley Cote, Tie Domi, and Shawn Thornton are my five favorite NHL fighters. But I would be a fool to not give Brashear props for the long and storied dominant career he had.
