HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all the fathers out there, may you have a grand day. One of my grandsons took me to the Red Sox vs Cubs game last night. Stopped at John Barleycorns for a great burger and beverage. Sat next to a couple of guys from Boston who came to Chicago to see Wrigley and take in the series. They were rabid hockey fans and we talked Bruins and Hawks the for most of the game. Great night. For guys like OBZ and the rest of you fathers, I hope you have a great Fathers Day, also.

try to improve via trade
the only pieces this team has is hjalmarsson (marginal as best) and a guy like bolland or (no one wants to read this) kane. the only reason i say kane is because it would open up a spot for saad guaranteed along with the ability to bring in a proven goaltender and a possible 2nd line center. now that all depends on what the salary cap is gonna be at for sure after the new cba is created so bowman has to worry about that as well. |

Reports are that the Hawks and Shane Doan have a mutual interest in having him come to Chicago.
He is 36 and coming off a 22 goal season. It could give us a hell of a tough third and fourth lines.

The talk about Shane Doan coming here is very interesting.
At 36, coming off a 22 goal season, he could add quite a bit to a team. He could be a settling factor on the third line, or even play a bit on the second line. It would give us more grit on the third and fourth lines. With the other off season signings, this would really make this a hockey tough club.

With a good group of young forwards, he could be a steadying influence on the ice as well as a productive player.
He still has a few good years left in him. I, too, hope it happens.

So with the Convention three days away..
the highlight is going to be a 6th (albeit necessary) defenseman, and a new assistant coach? Hold back your excitement boys... control yourself.

OBZ, I may be in the minority, but I am not complaining about what has happened so far. I think by adding Brookbank we got 4 to 6 points better. We solidified a defense which sorely lacked leadership and maturity. By the end of the season, we only had three experienced D men and some youngsters that really should be in the A. Then we played Sammy who thankfully is gone. With a more solid blue line, our forwards will have more freedom to play the game in front of them, instead of worrying more about the puck getting behind them and back checking. This will give them more time to set up plays or to contain the other team in transition. Also, I am glad we haven't spent like drunken sailors. We all know what kind of trouble that got us in before. Remember the contract we gave to Soupy and Hossa. That paved the way for the contracts to Keith, Kane, Toews, and Sharpy. I know we have a great need at center, a mature center. We have a lot of prospects, but, we could sure use a Doan, who won't break the bank and who will give you an honest effort. By trade or free agency, we need to fill that position. We have players and money available to do that. P.S. I, too, share your excitement so far

OBZ,
Did you get a chance to go the convention again this year? I hope so. If you went, can you give us some insight of what you saw and heard? Thanks.
