Filling out the rest would be offense which has been crap all year followed by defense (which started ok and then went to hell) and then goaltending (when your D corps fails goaltending tends to slip). I'm not sure which players have NTC's, I assume it's Rod, Ray, Staal, Cam and maybe Cullen. We know Wallin has one because he's used the clause. Everybody else is fair game. I'd like to see us keep: Gleason, Walker (the only guy on the team doesn't have a minus +/-) Sutter, Ruutu, Jokinen. The team is so far in the crapper I'm not sure how another team can judge the viability of any of our guys. Looking for that glimmer of hope, maybe Sutter and Boychuk can get something going. Lets hope this statement "According to General Manager Jim Rutherford, Boychuk, along with fellow former first-round pick Brandon Sutter, will get a chance to play among the team’s top-nine forwards starting Friday night against Toronto." means they won't be tossed on the 4th line to rot. |

We can do better than that for Whitney, a PPG player, right? What about Boston, with some of those juicy Toronto first rounders? Easier said than done to get guys not to sign NTC's. As we saw with Heatley, an NTC isn't so much a no-trade agreement as it is a "I'll decide when and where you can trade me". Thanks to the NHLPA, advanced free agency laws, and the like NTC's are a staple on the vast majority of player contracts going forward. Let's see what Zach can do....

Big Game tonight
So... tonight we determine the worst team in the NHL.
And I finally figured out what is wrong with this team, Moe has lost what was left of his poor delusional little mind. Proof below: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sport...rticle1354234/ Both teams have struggled considerably to score goals this season, ranking last and dead-last in the Eastern Conference so far, prompting Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice to suggest he wouldn’t be surprised if some fire wagon hockey broke out and the teams racked up a 9-8 game. Said Wilson: “We’ve been playing much better defensively so I don’t see the game going in that direction, but if he’s willing to give up eight or nine goals we’ll take that right now. He hasn’t watched us play much if he thinks were capable of scoring eight or nine goals.” Isn't this game tantamount to watching paraplegic dung beetles wrestle over a polished turd? |

Well ultimately I'm upset with whats going to happen with this team. I hate they aren't winning but there is a lot of special history, moments, and players on this franchise that aren't going to be around anymore. This will be the first time this has happened since the team has been here and its going to be a sad moment for me. These guys are playing terrible now but ultimately they brough us a stanley up, lots of playoff success over the years and most importantly made us a legitimate franchise here in the south and for that I hate to see it come down to this.
This team just can't get it done anymore and I feel like age caught up with them. I think the playoff run last year just took that much out of them, these guys gave us their all to get in the playoffs and knock off superior teams and I think during the offseason their age caught them. I don't really see that the effort isn't there they just don't have it, maybe they don't have the desire but its going to change soon and a lot of history is going to be gone with it. So far I couldn't be happier with what Sutter and Boychuk have done. You plug Sutter in all over the place and he scores no matter who hes with, thats a good sign. They both look faster than anyone else we've got and the teams playing better with just that small infusion of youth. If Wallin takes a seat and you throw Rodney, McBain, someone like that in there then maybe the defense will get it going too. Maybe bring up Peters and let him play goal a few games, show these guys that we can do the same thing they're doing with minor leaguers and maybe even better. |

Thoughts
The wife and I pondered our situation Sunday and she had some good points.
1) Peters should stay down, no point in wrecking the kids confidence putting him in the shooting gallery. He doing good in Albany, and he isn't the answer to our problems outside of the goalie position. 2) Since we haven't recalled Peters, I'm guessing Rutherford is trying to get a goalie outside the organization. I'm with Mr. America on this one and I think its Legacy. Far too many people are warning about Fernandez injury prone nature, it would be a huge gamble. 3) Biron is out, DP is, at least, a month out and she (the wife) read there was a gentleman's agreement that Biron wont just be dumped on any old team when DP returns. I don't see him wanting to go to the last place team in the league. 4) IMHO a trade isn't the answer either. If you trade away any of our marketable players (Ray, Gleason, etc) for a goalie this team goes from dead to buried. 5) Bench Rod, call up some more Rats and tell everyone with double digit minus (+/-) they are next (ie Corvo, A Ward and Pitkanen). We don't need to bench Rod, he needs to retire, or go on LTIR, heal up, rest whatever, and maybe give it one more go next season. We need to get him off the ice, and if he isn't going to play, we need his cap space as we are pretty close against the cap.
Anyways, with Legace here who's our starter now? lol |
|
||||
|
Legace starts unless he looks like complete turd, then Leighton is given the chance to come in and look like turd and all the while we make it look like we're trying but in the end keep our #1 overall pick.
The Oilers have released Steve MacIntyre. Well I can dream can't I? Anyone have contacts with Rutherford please send this suggestion down, really its not a bad idea with Harrison gone and Conboy a healthy scratch. Once all the Rats come up they're going to need someone to watch their backs. |

I know I'm going to refresh the hurricanes homepage and see that they've signed MacIntyre, surely it will happen. Really though if it doesn't happen or a heavy of some sort isn't signed by Christmas I think its safe to say its never going to happen. When is there ever a situation of higher need then when your team sucks and is full of young kids? Boston, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Toronto, LA even could all do some damage to our current lineup if things got out of hand.
Yelle can be scratched now with Sutter being up. Sutter can center the 3rd line and Brindamour can move down to the 4th. You could have a 4th line of Kosto - Brindy - Mac with walker on the 3rd with Sutter and LaRose or Walker - Brindy - Mac with Kosto on the 3rd. Once Staal comes back Mac can take a seat in non threatening games or surely by then the trade bombs will begin and it won't matter. Come on JR! |
