Buffalo Sabres 2011-2012 Thread!

New season, New thread.

Heres what we presently have to work with..

13 Signed Forwards..

Vanek
Pominville
Leino
Stafford
Roy
Boyes
Hecht
Kotalik
Gaustad
Gerbe
McCormick
Kaleta
Ennis

5 Signed D-Men

Regehr
Ehrhoff
Leopold
Morrisonn
Myers.

In Goal is the same as last year.. Miller with Enroth as Backup ( so far ).

We have 1.305Million in Cap space.

What I am hoping for is someone tossing an offer to Enroth and snagging him up so we get some first round picks to package with a forward to Acquire another solid D-man.

Our D looks pretty good as it is, Definitely up in the top 3rd of the league but can the forwards put the puck in the net so we will win games?

Concussionally is GONE! Butler is GONE! They need to decide weather to Keep Sekera or Weber. Id rather Weber as he has size and is still developing.

Come to think of it, we dont have a single D-man under six foot or 200lbs. Sekera is the smallest at 6'0", 201lbs.

I really wish they would snag Goddard or someone else whom can scrap. Maybe Kassian will make the cut this year as hes a much better player then Kotalik!

Center is our worst position. We have Roy, Gaustad, McCormick. Boyes should move to wing again. Maybe Luke Adams will get a call-up?

They resigned Weber. They now have the required amounts in all 3 categories for a roster under the CBA/rules.

I'd like to keep Enroth as back up for Miller because I always worry an injury could happen. We would have been screwed last year with Lalime in net. I think our D looks good as it is now, Sekera would be better to have in for Morrison but I'm not sure we sign him. Gragnani showed he can play last year in the playoffs.
It's odd but they want to make Leino a center and I'm not sure he has much experience. Hecht can also play center but your right besides Gaustad I'm not sure we will win to many draws.

Sekera stiffed. Wants arbitration. We signed Weber and were just below the cap. Sekera can push us over. Even if we dont accept a contract with him ( ala Tim Kennedy ), it will still cost us headroom.

This makes it sound like Sekera might return, I kind of hope he does his offensive play fits well with the other D-men we have. He's not all that great defensively though.

Time is running out. Big Mac is signed - and here in the East no less. Godard was snagged up.... only Boults is still out there, and he can be had for a (relative) song.

Buffalo has always loved the tough guys, Mr Pegula - despite what Duh'Arcy and Mindy tell you. Certainly you remember the Ray - May- Barnaby- Boughner etc days. Nobody ever boos a fight. Tell Duh'Arcy to get his head out of his arse and sign Boulton. A good businessman protects his investment. You paid McCormick 1.2 mill a year.... 650K or so for a legit HW is protecting your investments.

Carkner, Neil, Konopka, Lessard, Engelland, Macintyre, Orr, Rosehill, Gillies, Thornton, Shelley etc... need I go on?

The Buffalo fans will thank you.
Cody will thank you.

Do the right thing.

Boulton is taken now. That leaves Koci, who I highly doubt Regier will sign. So Pegula will meddle in team management to sign an average player to a massive contract, yet won't force Regier to sign an enforcer to protect what his millions are going towards? It's going to take one of our guys getting Bertuzzi'd for anyone on the Sabres to wake up!

You know with buffalo fans luck that the sabres wont get an enforcer. Linda Fluff never played Peters (not that he was very good) and Regier seems to like the small speedy players. I guess will have to stick with McCormick as our "protector". I just hate being a buffalo fan although i will never be able to part from them.

F*ck YOU Regier.

F*ck YOU Ruff.

But most of all ... F*ck YOU Pegula. You throw millions around for euro flash-in-the-pans and leave a huge glaring need unfilled? Do you not see the arms race that has taken place around the league?

What do you have against Cody McCormick? You must hate him to put him out there like that!

I actually thought that a supposed "hockey guy" like you proclaim to be would recognize the benefits of having an enforcer in the lineup. I guess I was wrong. Duh'Arcy must be right and all the other GM's in the league (except for other idiots like DET,MTL,CAR,FLA,TB) are wrong?

Thanks in advance for the embarassment I will suffer while the Gaybers live up to that moniker.

Douchebag.

You act like your suprised. As a buffalo fan your supposed to expect the worst. Of course Linda Fluff, Marsha Regier, and Tara Pegula arent going to get an enforcer. Welcome to Buffalo,NY, the town where the sports teams dissapoint the fans!

There arent any more NHL caliber enforcers available!

At this point I'd settle for them signing Mitch Fritz and calling him up when necessary.

Your namesake will be lucky to make it through the season in one piece... it sucks that they are forcing him to carry the load like that - and with the moves this off season it's a heavy load!

You make a good point but i just cant get my hopes up. I would settle for any real enforcer also but we know its not going to happen. McCormick will have to fight out of his weight class again. I hope Sean Avery runs Miller and Vanek that way buffalo will figure out they need an enforcer

I have expected the worst since Golisano took over, This team has been soft since the mid 90;s. Sure... Peters had a top5 season in there, but that was an enigma. The POINT is that Pegula was supposed to be a savior.... a passionate "hockey guy" who loved old-school hockey. He was supposed to "change" things. Other than an asst coach hitting the bricks nothing really changed in the front office or coaching staff. He authorized our milquetoast GM to spend like a drunken sailor on an aging D man and a couple of euros. **** him and the horse he rode in on.

There is no reason to get your hopes up. It's O-V-E-R. All the enforcers are gone. Sure... we can cling to a thread that they will pick up Belak, Koci or even Fritz... but that just ain't going to happen.

They are making it really easy for me to hate this ****ing team.... AGAIN
