Buffalo Sabres 2009-2010 Season!

I started last years thread, why not set a trend!

The Aud is being ripped down, maybe it was an albatross? Maybe with it gone we might see some better times?

I Think Max will be GONE. Ellis and Moore as well.

Mancari, Kaleta, Stafford and MacArthur are all RFA's, whom will we sign?

Sekera is also a RFA but I don't think anyone would really want him. Weber can take his place.

Keep Kaleta, Stafford, and MacArthur drop the rest

Well ... we drafted Zack Kassian first round , lost Spacek to the Habs and picked up Steve Montador from the B's.

No word on UFA Andrew Peters (not a hot commodity at this point), and the need for an able enforcer grew now that the Leafs picked up Colton Orr !

Qualifying offers to RFA's Stafford, MacArthur and Sekera.

Theres still a few good enforcers out there, certainly most of them are better then what we currently have.

Maybe Peters will find the juice again and go back to his old form.. Nope.. thats asking too much.

I do think the Sabres will go after another defensemen.. I would LOVE to see Beauchemin in Buffalo!

We can all forget Beauchemin now that hes signed with Toronto. Not looking too good for Buffalo as far as getting any block buster players to arrive. Still there are plenty of team players aval if Quinn and company will shell out a few pennies. I personally think Buffalo should get some size on defense and a big enforcer. Maybe Mitch Fritz will sign? Lol Buffalo enforcers don't play much but having a guy like Fritz give Buffalo a huge advantage in the fighting arena. Also Denis Gauthier is a pretty tough D-man from LA who could bring sound play in his own end plus 5-7 fights per season. Anyways I posted on this forum some other possible tough guys who could fill a role in buffalo. Maybe one of them will find his way to Buffalo? Who knows....

IMO if anything they offer Peters close to league minimum and keep him in the pressbox, only to get beat up when necessary.

Your pry right about Peters resigning. Buffalo would rather sign a player who won't be getting any competitive offers from the rest of the league than go after someone with a little more talent. Still having Peters wouldn't be horrible if he actually played. Half of last season he sat the bench and for what? Buffalo never made the playoffs and the fans lost out on dozens of potential fight opportunities. I personally dont like Peters fighting style. He holds on and tries to tire his opponent out by dragging him in circles. I like enforces who jump right in with lefts and rights and don't really use the opponets jersey for anything except to soak up the blood.

Yeah, that's been his problem the last two years. His "hold on with a straight left, bend over, turn back so not to get punched in the mush, and throw a right every once in a while" style is annoying to no end. He'll throw with the smaller guys ( Gratton, Hordi ), but a true HW he is punch-shy.

He was on a roll, a great feud with Gratts, and arguably top 5. Then he took a beating from Brash in the last game of 06 - 07.

He wasn't the same since.

Last season he started out strong, albeit against not the best opponents, but I thought it was the start of a turnaround. Mindy Puff decided against dressing him consistently and the rest is history.

IMO they'd better sign him soon before another desperate team takes him as a last resort.
This period of no offers may be the kick in the ass he needs to wake him up and force him back to old form.

Unrelated note ... decent new site :

Let Peters go. I don't see him actively looking for a contract and he wouldn't last long in the North East anyway. With Brash, Goddard, Orr and others now in the area.. he would be nothing more then a punching bag.

How about going after Roy or Fritz?

Peters did okay against Orr last season, and Brash just changed jersey's. The only real difference is seeing Orr a few more times ...

I'd take Fritz over Roy, and Wade Brookbank was available last I checked. Believe me, I'd rather get some new blood in here, but IMO they will either offer Peters a minimum contract or go with some lame "toughness by committee" nonsense.

Season ticket prices went up, and then Mindy comes out in the paper saying he's "satisfied" with the team they have ????????????????????????

I've always been a Sabres fan, but these clowns are making it pretty difficult.

I've heard they are dragging their feet with Peters because they are trying to make a trade that would include an enforcer. However, Peters is still a possibility but they want someone that is not as one-dimensional. I have heard Ivanans name brought up but I don't really see him as that big an upgrade in the hockey skills department over Peters.

No, but it is certainly an upgrade in the pugilism dept. IMO.
