Cool Terry O'Reilly Story
Some of you may already know this, but I run a family owned foreign auto shop with my father. Well, he got a call yesterday from a friend who buys old Mercedes-Benz sports cars & parts them out. He had just bought a 1969 MB 280SL off a guy near us & he wanted my dad to haul the car up to Maine for him. Turns out the guy was Terry O'Reilly. All I had laying around the shop was an old Bruins knit cap, so I gave to my dad to have him sign.
My old man went over to pick the car up & got to talking with Terry. I guess he's a real nice guy. He even rummaged through his truck to find a pic that he could sign for me, too. The cool part of the story, for me, is how Terry ended up with the car. I guess when he won the Bruin's 7th Player Award in 74-75 he got a free Toyota from Woburn Toyota. He went to the dealer to pick up the car & when he sat in it he barely fit & he told the salesman that he didn't want it. Just then another employee at the dealer drove by in the 280SL (which had been traded in) and Terry said I'll take that one. I guess he worked out a deal to trade the Toyota for the MB along with some cash. Anyways, Terry is obviously not a big car guy because the car has fallen on hard times. Its either a restoration project for somebody, or a parts car. Here's some pix of the car & the stuff he signed. I would've gone along & got a pic with Terry, but I had to deliver a much newer Mercedes S500 to a customer. ![]()
