NOTTINGHAM Panthers have moved quickly to shore up their faltering defence with the signing of NHL round one draft pick Mario Larocque.

It is hoped the paperwork is finalised in time for the 6ft 3in 31-year-old to fly into the UK to make his debut against Sheffield Steelers at the National Ice Centre on Saturday.

Larocque played five games in the NHL for Tampa Bay Lighting and was also signed by Buffalo Sabres but didn’t play another game in the top league.

It is in the lower leagues that he has excelled – both in terms of points and penalties.
Solid signing for the Panthers adding more size to a big defensive unit this season..

he is a bit dirty and doesnt fight a lot ( 200 pms, 2-3 fights) but on the other hand he might start some stuff in UK and he can defend his own with his good size.
very decent player too.

Panthers have no single fighter on their team but do have very good team toughness this season..

That's
Heavyweights/Light-heavyweights

Mario Larocque - Part of the Thrashers goon team back in the mid 2000's. But never really fought much and put up crazy pims.. Still he has some good names on his fight card when he has fought, and has good size.

Kevin Bergin - Apart from McMorrow and Voth, he's probable the next toughest in the league.. Open fighter who's beating a lot of guys over here.. If he would stay away from McMorrow(Lost 3 times badly to him) he will do fine this season..

Dominic D'Amour - Put up good amount of fights in Juniors, and has some decent names on his fight card. Beat Ryan Jorde, and Jason Robinson already this season.

Corey Neilson - Team coach and will fight from time to time but never fights a guy he thinks could beat him. He has 3 fights in 15 games so far.

Middleweights/lightweights

Bruce Richardson - Game middleweight who gets beat more times than he wins. But good to watch.

Ross Dalgleish - Brit who's starting to fight a lot more the last while, lightweight fighter and probable the best lightweight in the league. 4 fights so far this year..
