German 2009-10

Fighters for the teams and a short toughness preview:

Augsburg Panther:

They have lost some tough players like Paul Flache ( he went during last season), power Forward and Team Captain Mark Murphy as well as big Scott Barney.

They have kept Matt Ryan and Brett Englhardt who are both willing but not really good fighters. Both play a gritty style for sure.
In Rhett gordon they have a small but decent fighter as well, even if Gordon isnt looking for fights.

The best Fighter from the team is Colin Murphy who had many great Fights in the last Years icl. wins against good fighters like

Daniel Carcillo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kZFJ...layer_embedded

as well as
Rick Rypien
Byron Bitz-

here is a decent Draw against Zenon Konopka-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqFAc...layer_embedded

The Defensive is kind of weak, Chris Heid has some size and had some fights but he isnt really going to answer the bell.

I would say their Toughness is decent, not as good as the previous year but with Murphy they have one of the best fighters here and they have some middleweights as well.

Eisbären Berlin
They were a weak team last season and with Nathan Robinson, who had most fights for them last season, they lost a key player who gets nasty if you play hard against him. I wouldnt call him a tough player but he creates a lot of scrums and roughing and gets angry fast so I would call this a Loose for Berlin.

They still have Denis Pederson who had some great Battles when he was younger, but he is now a Star Player and old so he isnt interesting in fighting anymore.
Richie Regher has a good Size and a tough brother but he isnt a type for the rough stuff.

They definitly need some toughness - Its a shame that they lost Shawn Heins, Drake Berehowsky in the last years without replacing them with new toughness.

DEG Metro Stars

They are most likely going to give Ryan Ramsay away, who is a decent Fighter for his size and started the huge Brawl against Iserlohn last season. He had also shown up some decent Fights in the OHL, AHL and ECHL. They also lost a decent fighter and great Defenseman in Andrew Hedlund.

They have brought in Mark Murphy who is better offensive and had a great fights last season against Nathan Robinson and Rob Brown ( posted in the other topic).
His biggest win was prolly a KD against Travis Moen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX4aD...layer_embedded

They also kept Ryan Caldwell, who had a fight against Todd Warrinner last season and is usually a good candiate for some scrums and roughing. He had some fights in the AHL as well.
They also kept Bradley Tutschek who was a really really active middleweight in the WHL, with a career high of 14 Fights! in 66 Games back for Edmonton 97-98. For some reason he never looked tough in Germany, I dont think he came close to a fight here.

Another new guy is Patrick Traverse who had wins over decent fighters like Jay Henderson and Sean Curry but from what you hear he is weak and his pm numbers speaks a lanquage.
Another new guy is Jason Holland, who has a good size as well and a draw against Sean Avery- Holland also held his own against Cabana but he only goes if he really have to go.

Their toughness is decent, it sucks that they lost Ramsay and Andrew Hedlund but they at least have some depth toughness.

Frankfurt Lions

Really disappointing.
They lost a great Fighter in Lance Ward , who never got going here anyway.
In Kavanagh, Biron ( who had some good checks), Gerbig, heerema and Muir they lost all their big guys.
The new guys like periard, Angell are none fighters.
In new guy Alexander Polaczek, one of the best german agiators, Sebastian Osterloh ( who plays really physical) and Simon Danner they have some gritty germans but not really a decent fighter.
Jason Young plays with the Edge too, Blanchard is a good team guy who will at least save his goalie if he has to do, but neither are good fighters.

In Jamie Wright and Daniel Kunce they have some decent middleweights, but its not sure if they both play for the Team next season as Frankfurt isnt happy with both of them.

I dont think their Coach Rich Chernonanz had ever such a weak team. **** it.

Hamburg Freezers
They lost Rob Leask and Sean Blanchard who were both good for the depth Toughness.
They replaced him with Mathieu Biron who has a good size and threw some decent checks last season. He isnt a fighter though.
In Jere Karalahti they have one of the best hitters from the DEL, he is playing a great physical game.

John Tripp is a mistery to me, he was really aggressive in his first season but after that there came nothing out of it. He had a fight with Wade Skolney 2 years ago and was involved in the brawl against Düsseldorf trying to go with Charlie Stephens.
There are days where he will throw great checks and roughing up players, and on other days he is invisble and looking soft. Its too bad as he is still dangerous for any fighter.
In Clarke Wilm they have a good Leader and really good unterrated fighter as well.
Wilm fought Wade Brookbank, jeff Paul, Jonathan Aitken to an draw just to name a few guys of his big fight card. He isnt an aggressive player, but a good teammate.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITtE_...layer_embedded
here is a fight against Doug Friedman.

They still have room for another tough player so who knows who they are going to sign.
They also lost Brad Smyth , who was a decent fighter in his young days, but beeing injured for a while he wasnt much of an help last season.

Having Wilm,Tripp,Karalahti is not bad. it could be better. but also worse.

Hannover Scorpions:

Matt Dzieduszycki , a 5.11 worker thats all they had and have. At least he is a decent fighter for his size who beat up Peter Ratchuk last season.

here he is beating up an San Diego player.

they have also Chris Herperger.

ERC Ingolstadt
They lost Allan Rourke and Jason Holland, who are both decent fighters for german standards but even for german standards to brave.
In Leader Yves Sarrault, worker Matt Keith and Yannick Seidenberg and especially J.F Boucher they have lost some toughness in the Offensive,
but they did a great job by replacing their players.

In the Defensive they kept Bruno St Jacques who is a real leader and playing a physical style of hockey.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDNm1...layer_embedded
here is a fight of him- he is the player in red-

In Prestin Ryan, they get a great Defender who was a big surprise to me as he was playing super aggressive always looking for a fight or a scrum. He had some fights in the AHL and will help the team for sure.

In Pat Kavanagh they get a gritty power forward who will be a good duo with Bob Wren who had a lot of pms here in Germany too and even some fights in the AHL.

Their main fighter will be Tyler Bouck who is a great Captain, always looking up to help his teammates and to give 100 % on every shift.
Bouck is a decent fighter as well.
Ther are some fights from him on youtube.
I decided to post this win over Brad Ference.

as well as this scrum against Albany which shows that he will go after anyone to help out a teammate. Bouck prolly knew that he has to take some punches to help his teammates but he was the first guy who went in to help out.

In Stephan Daschner they have an young rookie Fighter who had about an fight every season, beat down Barta last season and challenged Scott May when playing in ravensburg.
He is small , prolly 5.10 but for a young german he is fiesty for sure.

In Bouck, St Jacques and Ryan along with Kavangh and some others they are having a tough team.

There has been the first pre season game in Germany last season-

Cologne Sharks ( DEL ) against Herner EV ( 3rd divisioN)

at 5:35 you can see a decent check by Tough Guy David Herring
http://www.dropyourgloves.com/Player...x?Player=10583
who is prolly doing a try out at Herne-.

Herring also started a scrum at 4:30 by just going for an Cologne Player pushing and hitting him.

video can be seen here:

Cologne is the weakest team which prolly has ever played in Germany-
Herne also has Paul Flache ( who is a very good fighter but barely fights) and Rory Rawlyk who is an agiator-

Most teams havent even started to practice now,
so hockey wasnt good-

Team preview Part 2:

Iserlohn Roosters
They have been one of the toughest teams for years and they will defend this job again this season.

They lost huge Chris Schmidt and charakter guy Ben Simon but in
Andy Schneider, who isnt a great fighter but plays hard for an college guy,
and the willing lightweight Kris Sparre ( who had 5 fights last season) they brought in some new guys.

They prolly have the best 1-2 duo in aggressive Jimmy Roy and tough Ryan Ready.
I dont think I have to say much about Jimmy Roy, who had fought so many tough guys in his career. Ryan Ready is really unterrated, he had shown his fighting talent in a draw against Matt Carkner. According to DYG he had only one lost , and wins over good fighters like Jay Harrisson, Aaron Rome just to name a few.

In Christian Hommel they have an german Enforcer- His only job is to run arround and hit and fight people. He is doing a good job for an german .
He had a good season with 2 wins over Adam Courchaine and Michi Christ last season. The year before he fought Chad Wiseman.

Their Stars like Marty Wilford or Mark Ardelan arent that weak as well for german standarts compared to other first line players.
Wilford showed that he can defend his self against proven fighters like Laplante, Lefrebrve and Brookbank ( even if it was mostly wrestling and holding),
Ardelan fought a bit as a junior icl. a good Draw against Ben Ondrus and an win in his rookie season over Keegan McAvoy.

good job by Sparre here to stick up for his teammate. He is a bad fighter but willing and fiesty.

Marty Wilford who did a good job for an All Star Defender by fighting against the very experienced fighter Sheldon Brookbank. It was a clear win for Brooks but Wilford at least didnt go down.

College kid Andy Schneider getting an Thumps Up for the afford , fighting an heavyweight in Justin Soryal.
Too bad he felt down.
Schneider was my favourite for the open spot at the huskies defensive.

If you have Ryan Ready, Jimmy Roy and Christian Hommel you dont have to worry to get pushed arround. The roosters have an great team.

Good job podollan !

My home-team ( Heilbronn falcons ) aquiered Frederic Cabana ( former Philly Phantom ).

The other tough guys are: Pat Baum, Marc St-Jean, Denis Reul and Luici Calce. There will be good for some good stuff...

So Denis Reul returned to play in Germany?

Yes he signed with Adler Mannheim but as their are pretty depth on Defensive he will most likely in 2nd Division for Heilbronn.

I will post the rest in the next days.

That sucks. I wish he stayed with the Bruins in the AHL/ECHL.

Next teams

Kassel Huskies:
They lost nearly all their toughness ( and they werent a tough team last season) in not resigning Robert Francz, Kevin Estrada and Brad Burym who at least threw some good hits.

In Pierre Luc Sleigher they brought in a really tough little Center who had a seasons with over 200 pms in the QMJHL- But can you expect from a 5.08 guy who played the last seasons in France and Suisse to do all the fighting/rough stuff?

They also brought in Josh Soares who is an hard working, physical player and 5.10 Trevor Johnson who had some fights back in the WHL - He even fought Derek Boogard which shows how much heart he has, but he wasnt able to beat down none fighter Nate DiCasmirro which shows how bad he is as an fighter. He also didnt fight a lot in the last years.

Their defensive is really weak, with a lot of small players ( Only one guy over 6.0) - But the team is full,
so I expect the Huskies to have a bit trouble with physical teams like Straubing,Iserlohn-
I dont understand why they didnt go for Peter Flache or Pat Baum, who arent expensive and would have helped a lot.

At least Sleigher should bring some fun. He fought a lot of tough guys at juniors.

Here is a video of Sebastien Bisaillon, fighting for the Springfield falcons . he is fight 2 from the clip
Bisaillon in blue

Kölner Haie
No Fighters -
Ankert, the Müller guys,Bryan Adams, Andreas Renz and Jason Jaspers have heart and might throw some hits but none of those guys can really fight.
They look horrible. Weakest team.
They tested a real Fighter in Peter Flache but he was released.

Krefeld Pinguine
They have a decent mix of Jim Fahey, Allan Rourke, Lynn Loyns, Charlie Stephens, Roland Verwey, Serge Payer, Patrick Hager-
None of those guys is a real tough guy but all of those guys can and would fight if they have to do.
Its decent.

Allan Rourke in an good fight with Eric Nystrom.

Payer going with Daymond Langkow as well as going with Grant Marshall
and

Stephens getting his ass kicked as usually this time by Kuiper after an great hit

Adler Mannheim
One of the toughest teams last season, but they lost their main fighter in Peter Flache and some other tough players like Blake Sloan,Rene Corbet as well as some depth toughness like Blake Sloan, Andy Schneider.

At least they brought some new tough guys in like
Andy Hedlund who is an decent fighter for german standarts,
Nathan Robinson isnt an tough player but for some reason also has 2-3 Fights which is good for german standarts. Martinec isnt as active as the last years, but him together with little gritty Yannick Seidenberg and some hitters like Ronny Arendt and Marcus Kink ( who fought Pat Kavanagh 2 years ago) is okay. Beardsmore is an hard worker as well.
In the Defensive they also signed Chris Schmidt, who had fought Brian McGrattan and beat down Brennen Evans according to DYG. He can fight and his huge.

Same goes for Denis Reul, who is really strong and mean looking.
He had also some great fights in the QJMHL against legit heavyweights. He is supposed to play in the 2nd division but I hope he will also plays for the Eagles as he can throw some great bodychecks.
In Felix Petermann they have an decent stay at home defender who fought Chris Herperger to an draw 2 years ago. He also beat down an Berliner player last playoffs.

Sven Butenschoen has some real mean heavyweights in his fight card like Francis Lessard, but he is some of the worst fighters. But at least an great team guy who will still pick on the heavyweights if he really has to do.
Same goes for Colin Forbes who isnt playing tough but he can still beat down a lot of Players in the DEL.

Eagles got a bit weaker but they are still a tough team with a lot of big guys like Chris Schmidt, Andy Hedlund, Denis Reul, Colin Forbes. The mix from willing gritty players like ( Seidenberg, Kink,Petermann ) and experienced guys like Forbes,Schmidt seems to be okay too.

Here are some fights I picked from Mannheim players:

Colin Forbes beating Kasparaitis

Beardsmore fighting Holzer

Denis Reul going with junior heavyweight Matt Boland

Nurnberg Icetigers
They lost a gritty guy in Alexsander Polaczek as well as some decent #2 and #3 Fighter in Shawn Carter and Cole Jarrett.

For them it is very important that Alain Nasreddine is healthy to play the season.
He had some problems with his knee last season and its not sure if he can play this season.
He is an very experienced fighter and has fought nearly all good AHL heavyweights.

Dan Spang and Paul Albers are the other additions for the defensive. Spang had only fight but looked good in this one, Albers on the other hand seems to be a bad fighter.

In the Offensive their goalgetter Brad Leeb can fight if he have to do.
Tyler Mosienko is very fiesty for his small size, same goes for Morten Ask who loves to start trouble.

Here is a Fight Nasreddine against Darin Kimble.

Paul Albers getting his ass kicked by Ben Ondrus

Brad Leeb - Steven Goerten who is a proven ahl fighter

It all depends if Nasreddine will play or not.

Straubing Tigers:

They lost a great Fighter and tough guy in Wade Skolney.
But they brought in big, strong Jean-Phillippe Morin, who had some fights at juniors as well as taking on 2 very good fighters in UK.
In Karl Stewart they brought in another super hard hitting agiator from the Staates who had an career high of 8 Fights and over 200 pms for the Wolves in the 04-05 season.

Eric Meloche surprised me with his agiating style here, he always had over 100 pms here and was always starting scrums here.

Brian Maloney is a proven ahl middleweight and some of the best fighters here in Germany. He has a decent size, experience .

In Rene Röthke and Chad Bassen, who beat down Jason Jaspers at the season opener a few years ago they have 2 more middleweights. Bassen always had a few fights back in the whl, Röthke fought Hommel and Brad Smyth during his time here.

In the Defensive they kept Andy Canzanello, who is playing with the Edge too- He had 4 fights in his last season with the crunch as well as taking on Wes Rypien in his first career fight.

The best thing is they are trying to get another fighter in Ryam Ramsay!
Imagine an line of
Stewart Ramsay Maloney -

Edit: They just signed Peter Flache via TO Contract
Flache is an 6.5 Monster who was #2 on Fightingmajor at the ECHL before he left to play in Germany.

Here are some videos:

Karl Stewart getting his ass kicked by Bieksa.

Karl Stewart going with Ryan Wilson

Andy Canzanello going with decent Fighter in Tyson Marsh

Rene Röthke winning a fight against experience former NHL Player Brad Smyth
I had no idea how he won this one. turn out the boxes haha

J.P Morin (green) taking on UK Top Fighter Jeremy Cornish
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns-dt...layer_embedded

J.P Morin fighting an german guy- morin in black

Flache vs Conrad Martin

vs Matt Herneisen

Maloney fighting Nate Guenin

Straubing rocks toughness wise- Stewart, Maloney, Morin along with gritty guys like Röthke, Canzanello, Meloche- You cant complain about this

EHC Wolfsburg
They still have Ken Magowan as their #1 Fighter- He is an power forward who surprisingly scored tons of goals last season.
They dont have a real good #2 fighter,
Norm Milley can fight but wouldnt, Blake sloan plays with the Edge but isnt a fighter. Paul Traynor plays physical too and is decent for some scrums.

Ken Magowan vs Mitch Love 2 rounds
as well as some echl fights.

he also fought Dustin Wood last season, video can be found in the other thread.

Thanks a lot Podollan, nice previews.

I'm thinking of getting Sky again to watch the DEL, but I'm not sure yet if it's worth the money, I've watched a lot of games 2 years ago but basically no game last season.

Next game from Herne, next fight!

Paul Flache - Jimmy Roy

Jimmy Roys obligatorischer Faustkampf mit dem immer wieder provozieren Herne Paul Flache, sorgte dann für die erste Prügelei der neuen Saison, die von den 300 mitgereisten Roostersfans frenetisch bejubelt wurde.

Good game , a lot of scrums and roughing.

Herring is fun to watch!

Podollan, where is Wade Skolney going? Is he retiring?

Good Question I would love to know by myself. I would have loved to see him here in kassel but right now he has not signed anywhere.

I heard rumors about him going to Austria, but even those clubs are nearly full so I guess the other rumor I heard about him are true. They were, he will go back to America because his wife/girlfriend found a very good paid job there.

Maybe he will retire maybe he will play ahl/echl?

But I dont know for sure.

In J.F Boucher and Robert Francz there are Tough Guys with an german passport avalaible I am sure sooner or later they will end up somewhere!

Grand-Pierre left the league to go to Sweden. Rick Berry is UFA but wont return to DEL.
