Pretty ridiculous.

But also quite interesting how different fighting is dealt with in Europe these days. While they hand out GM's, Match-Penalties and suspensions like crazy in Finland other leagues like Russia, UK and Austria have introduced a 5 min major.

Ok, now it's starting to get of hands. And I'm speaking of the aftermaths of the infamous European Trophy game between Jokerit and HIFK. The Finnish police is already doing a crime investigation on Jokerit's Semir Ben-Amor's actions against HIFK's Ville Peltonen and now the have started crime investigations on actions of three HIFK players; Ilari Melart (for beating turtling Jarkko Ruutu), Juuso Salmi (for beating Ilari Filppula who was laying on ice) and Siim Liivik (coming in as a 3rd man to rough between Mikko Kurvinen and Ossi Väänänen and sucker punching Ossi Väänänen).

I have been enjoying SM-Liiga for some time now. It is a shame they are becoming so strict and 'tarded about this stuff.

Good thing other Euro leagues are allowing their teams to play real hockey.

Yeah, but the league (and also the Finnish Ice Hockey Federation) is having big pressure from media, politicians, etc. to give strict suspension for fighting especially now afer the police have started a total of four crime investigations from the Jokerit-HIFK European trophy game. As a result, I wouldn't expect a lot of fights in Finland this season.

And here comes the ridiculous thing. Mestis decided to suspend both fighters 2 games. Total Bull****!!

Tappara's Markus Kankaanperä became all time most penalized player in SM-liiga as he got a 2min minor for interference in today's game against SaiPa. Kankaanperä has now 1403 PIM. Congratulations to Markus!

Also, we might have seen the first fight of the regular season, but I'll post some info later when I can confirm if it's a fight or not.

Another fight in Mestis, Jarkko Näppilä (LeKi) vs Oula Palve (JYP-Akatemia). This was reported to be a one-sided beating by Näppilä. Penalties: Näppilä 5+Game, Palve 2min

BTW. Hirvonen and Manninen got both suspended two games. Manninen got suspended for their fight and Hirvonen for the hit leading to the fight.

Once again Jouko Palmula, the chief of discipline in Mestis, has proven himself to be a complete idiot who just ruins the game. It turned out that in the event mentioned above Näppilä did not drop his gloves but still Palmula suspended him for 3 games. Three ****ing games for punching opposite player with your gloves on!!!!! Luckily the teams have had enough and are starting to demand Palmula to be fired from his positions as chief of discipline.

btw, it'll be an interesting journey in Mestis for Jared Boll if Palmula continues to be the chief of discipline.

Jared Boll just took his first fight in Mestis against Tommi Välimaa (LeKi). Early reports say Välimaa challenged Boll (yet the penalties say otherwise) and took a severe beating (no surprise). Let's see how long suspension Boll will get. Hopefully league's chief of discipline doesn't crap his pants.
