And the brawling continues! Quote from the official European Trophy site:

"19:10 Fights once more on the ice. Started by the visitors this time.
19:10 Liivik wants some action and Åsten also. Salmi started this and wanted to fight with Filppula. Then Liivik wanted a piece of Väänänen who wasn't interested.
19:10 Penalties are: Salmi 5 mins + game misconduct, Liivik 2+10, Åsten 2 mins, also IFK coach Sormunen game misconduct, Jokerit: Niemi 2 mins roughing, Väänänen game misconduct, coach Lämsä also game misconduct."

And there's a fight in another European Trophy game, Ville Nieminen (Tappara) vs Tero Koskiranta (TPS). Nieminen got 5+Game and Koskiranta 2min.

Quote from the ET site:
"06:55 Ville Nieminen gets the puck in the net from under Engren, but the whistle was already blown! No goal. A fight between Nieminen and T.Koskiranta follows. A lot of emotion on the ice in this period!
06:55 Nieminen receives 5 + game misconduct apparently for starting the fight. He's out of the game! T.Koskiranta gets only 2 minutes."

Here we go again in Jokerit-HIFK game. This time it's a fair fight between Jarkko Ruutu (Jokerit) and Siim Liivik (HIFK). Ruutu gets 2+5+Game and Liivik 5+Game

from the ET site:
"14:08 Ruutu and Liivik going at it. Without the gloves. And Ruutu shows how it's done and overpowers the IFK forwards.

14:08 Ruutu gets the instigator so IFK will be on the PP. Both players ejected from the game"

Really low quality video from the Ruutu-Liivik fight. Hopefully there'll be better one available later. But at the moment we have to go with this one, Ruutu in blue, Liivik in white

Jarkko Ruutu vs Siim Liivik @ European Trophy:...

Here's a video of yesterdays Jokerit-HIFK game that shows the entire fight between Jani Rita (blue) and Mikko Jokela (white). Just in the beginning of the video you can see Semir Ben-Amor attacking Ville Peltonen.

Oh crap, it has started. Again. The anti-fighting bull**** due yesterday's events. Now the GM of SM-liiga has stated in news paper that the league will give harsher penalties for fighting to reduce the on-ice violence. Jesus what a load of crap. Like we have so many fights here. Oh dear, oh dear this season is going to suck.

SM-liiga has made a rule change that touches fighting. Starting from this season a player who takes off his helmet on purpose during a fight gets automatically additional Game Miscondut (20min) penalty. So a player can get a up to 45 minutes of penalties for fighting. Ridiculous rule as now on we'll se players squaring off with visors and that looks pretty stupid.

As an aftermath of the Ben-Amor-Peltonen inceident they're discussing fights and on-ice violence on Finnish TV today. This time they have pro-fighting people involved in the show as for example yours truly was interviewed and asked questions about the subject. Guests in the live show includes one of the best known pro-fighting hockey personas in Finland Petteri Sihvonen, former FEL tough guy Pasi Nielikäinen and FEL's chief of competition, a former referee Arto I. Järvelä. And what comes for my part in the show, an uneditet version of my interview can be viewed at YouTube uploaded by the crew of the program. Interesting to see what the outcome of the show is.

In another news The Finnish parliament is holding an on-ice violence debate next Friday.
