Austrian Hockey- Tons of former Minor Fighters!

I am sure a lot of guys wants to see where all the former AHL/ECHL/Minor league Players went - I listed the guys with fighting experience here-
I know that Chilly will say that 100 % of them suck and arent tough but I am sure you guys will remember a few of them .

Right! They are in Austria!

Graz 99er : Cole Jarrett, Nick Kuiper,

Vienna Capitals: Philippe Lakos, Sean Selmser, Benoit Gratton ( agiator)

KHL Medvescak Zagreb: Conrad Martin, Joel Prpic, John Hecimovic, Mike Prpich,

EC Klagenfurt: Kirk Furey, Sean Brown! , Andrew Schneider,

Red Bulls Salzburg: Mike Siklenka , Kelsey Wilson,
and Mike Schutte,Jason Beckett (loaned to farmteam)

HK Acroni Jesenice: not sure if they have one

EC Villach: Mike Martin, Mike Stewart!, Kiel McLeod, Jonathan Ferland

Blackwings Linz: Darrel Scoville, Franklin MacDonald ( not much toughness here)

Székesfehérvár: ??

HDD Tilia Olimpija Ljubljana: Remi Royer, Greg Kuznik, Bostjan Groznik, Brendan Yarema, Steve Kelly,

None - Fighters are guys like Jeff Shantz, Jeff Tory, steven Regier, Jonathan Filewich, Fredric Cassivi, Pat Leahy, Frank Banham, Pat Lebeau, Norm Maracle

I would say best fighters are:

Sean Brown, Kelsey Wilson, Mike Siklenka, Remi Royer, Brendan Yarema, Greg Kuznik, John Hecimovic, mike Stewart was a great fighter in the past for the Moose but he is old now.

I love the toughness from Lubljana-

Kelly is great player and always had over 150 pms when playing here in germany. At 6.2 he can also defend his self.
Yarema is a good sniper and took on some heavys when beeing in the AHL.
Kuznik has always been a great fighter for his small size,
and Remi Royer was a minor league Enforcer for many years!
In Groznik they have a huge, strong native guy who has limited skills so that he takes over the enforcer role. Here is a tape from him.

he is also not afraid to take a beating against the top fighters like Stewart and Ndur!

against Ndur, he did a good job by holding his own against a former minor league Heavyweight

and against Mike Stewart
Stewart with the win

Zagreb and Ljubljana... so I'm guessing some top teams from other countries play in the Austrian league since it's a higher quality league than their own?

correct- Sorry I forgot to say about that!
they have teams from hungary, slovennia and crotia.
Reason as you said. They are best club from their country without much competiotion so they play in austria which is close to their country.

Wow, a lot of familiar names. Hecimovic and Wilson both out of the Sarnia Sting organization a few years back, I wonder if that's coincidence or if there's some sort of connection. Anyway, I had no idea how many of those guys were playing in Austria, thanks for that update!

Pod, do you know the penalties for fighting in Austria? Is it 5+GM or do they have some kind of 14 min or something.

sorry I am not sure . I think its same as in germany. between 2+2+10 to matchpenalty - everything is possible. At least those were penalties I have seen.

Zagreb has signed former AHL Power Forward, NHL and DEL Player Brad Smyth.

You mentioned Cassivi as a non-fighter.

Kind of expected since he's a goalie isn't it?

You are right Podollan. between 2+2+10 to Matchpenalty is everything possible.

Our best fighters are Mike Siklenka, Mike Stewart and Philippe Lakos.

Lakos had a good fight with tavis Hansen. Both got a suspension for 3 games.

There is not a lot of fighting in Austria.

The Vienna Capitals have 0 fights in the last season.

And in this also 0 in the first 8 games.

Here the Lakos Hansen fight.

and here other fights

I find the EBEL to be an interesting league as there's many interesting players. Only 2 Finns but many former FEL players and lots of players that would be interesting to see them play in FEL.

austrian league seems nice, I wish FEL would take toughguys too!

Out of curiosity - how much money do the best players make in Austria? And how is the attendance in the arenas during games and how big are the are the arenas?

The money they get is secret, but it would be that Dieter Kalt own $ 300.000,-- /Year when he was transfered from Vienna to Salzburg.

With this he is Top leader.

In Vienna the arena is for 4500 people. And there are between 3500 and 4500 people per game. But we also have teams they have only 1500 people when they are playing not good.

I went to a Klagenfurt game this year when Sean Brown got a Gordie Howe hat trick. I don't know the name of the guy he fought, he was huge, former AHL'er who was playing for a Slovak team I think. Games are so much fun, crowd is so much more in to it than NHL games. A real treat.
