Lumberjacks Acquire Zach Saar From Buccaneers
MUSKEGON, Michigan (January 30th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced a trade for Forward Zach Saar and a fifth-round draft pick in the 2013 USHL Futures Draft from the Des Moines Buccaneers in exchange for Muskegon's second-round pick in the same Futures Draft.
Saar, the Plainwell, Michigan native, has totaled 12 points (four goals and eight assists) in 30 games played this season with the Buccaneers and is committed to play for the Penn State Nittany Lions beginning next season.
"We are excited to bring in a power forward, as well as bringing another Michigan-native back home to help the Lumberjacks in our drive for a USHL Championship," said Lumberjacks Owner and CEO Josh Mervis. "Zach (Saar) is an excellent player, as well as an NHL prospect that will benefit greatly from having our coaching staff, Jim McKenzie and Ron Gay, help him to develop into his fullest potential."
Saar is currently in his third year with the USHL and has accumulated 47 points (22 goals and 25 assists) in 117 games played between Des Moines and Chicago. Before coming to the USHL, Saar played for the Detroit Little Caesars Midget Minor team during the 2009-10 season totaling 49 points (27 goals and 22 assists) in 65 games played.
