Nerds.

I thought people really stopped caring as much about all of this stuff once the speeds all got super fast and basic computers had more memory than most of us will ever use. Maybe not? I guess the gamers keep up with this a lot more. I remember in the 90's we'd get a new PC every few years and would be amazed at the new one. Now, meh. I bought a $1,200 Dell laptop for college back in 2004, then after it was junk I was given a $400 Gateway laptop bought from Walmart for Christmas 3 years ago and still have that. Does all I need.

Work laptop is a Dell that is networked via Citrix to our VPN.

Personal laptop is an Asus laptop I got a bit ago (created a thread in here for it). It's served me wonderfully thus far. I game on it, take it on vacation and it's my primary at the house.

Desktop is an old E-Machine I got from Walmart a hell of a long time ago. I've updated memory on it and updated the Windows OS a few times. It's my "safety net" that stays disconnected from the internet for the most part, in case anything happens to my network or laptop(s). Great for playing games on and working through documents and stuff that I need to see on dual monitors.

Gamers and others who use graphic- and memory-intensive programs definitely pay close attention.

I bought a new laptop about 10 months ago to use Pro Tools 10 audio workstation. The program requires a decent amount of RAM and a dedicated graphics driver to help free up that RAM. I found a Samsung laptop with an i5 2.67 GHz processor and 4 GB of upgradeable RAM which I haven't had to improve on. I run Windows 7 64-bit. I have a dedicated NVIDIA 310m card with 1 GB dedicated memory.

It's not the most powerful computer but cost me 1/3 of the price of the cheapest Macbook, which has less firepower than this laptop. Now, I hardly use Pro Tools anyway. I switched to Reaper, which is a lot less computer-intensive than Pro Tools with just as much functionality. It's easier to use, and laid out better in my opinion. Runs perfectly fine on my laptop.

I have a very hilariously ****ty PC considering what I do with it. Been due for an upgrade since I got it in '07ish (started out behind the times)... Then what little I've thrown in it is freebie hand-me-downs from friends/family that are years behind themselves. I'm cheap, what can I say!

But. 2+ terabytes of storage. So we good.

I have a Samsung R480 that is still going strong after 2 1/2 years. I wasn't very familiar with Samsung laptops at the time I bought it, but thankfully this one has served me well.

Toshiba Satelite L675D 21 inch screen

Year Bought: 2009ish
OS- Ubuntu 12. pile of **** (Mint has issues with my computer for some reason.)
CPU- Dual Core 2.4ghz
RAM- 4 gb
HDD- 8 GB Memorex Flash drive. (HDD crapped out on me a few weeks ago)
Blu Ray Drive
Limited Edition 50 ft ethernet cord for my internets lol. Otherwise its wireless.

Upgrading the hardrive to 500 gb next week and putting Windows 7 on it. Can run most games on medium to low settings. Wish I would of put the 600 on a desktop instead of the laptop though. Its done me good though since it gets used a crap ton. No plans on upgrading to a new computer in the next 4-6 years though.

My gaming rig...

OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Graphics: GeForce GTX 580
RAM: 8gb Mushkin Enhanced DDR3
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 3.4Ghz
PSU: Corsair HX1000W
HD: 60 GB SSD (System)
HD2: 300 GB WD 10000RPM (Data)
MOBO: Crosshair IV Formula

All of it sitting in a black Corsair Obsidian 800d case with neon green LED fans. As for the peripherals...

Monitor: ASUS 24inch HD LED Monitor
Sound: Logitech X540 5.1 Surround Sound
Sound2: Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset
Mouse: Logitech MX518
Keyboard: Logitech G510 (LED color set to match the fans)

I also have two 250GB external drives I use for storage/backup. The weakest part at the moment would be the CPU, but I have no reason to upgrade because it can handle the majority of newer games (and most of them wouldn't be worth upgrading for anyways) without issue.

4 Gigs of Ram, 2.5 GHz pentium three, 64-bit Windows 8 (yeah yeah, I'm a sucker...lol), and whatever **** stock chip boards Sony puts on its Vaio laptops. It's got a 13.3" display. I basically only use it for typing and related school ****; I bought it because my netbook died, and this was the only new laptop I could find in Ottawa that still came with a US-English keyboard, and even that is no longer the case if you goto Best Buy/Future Shop. If it continues like this my next laptop in 4-5 years time might a...*shudder*...Macbook...
