What the hell is "#

I know I'm behind in all the new tech bull**** out there now but why in the **** am I seeing # before every other word these days? And since when did it start being called a ****ing hash tag, it's a goddamn pound sign?

shaud19 11-08-2012 03:12 PM

I agree with you it's out of hand. Every show on TV has their own personal hash tags. Companys think (may be right) that hash tags will make their product more popular. For example WWE has fan interaction in which supposedly if the fans use a particular hash tags they can influence what going happen next. I don't have a Twitter but I'm guessing a lot of this hash tags are basically spam trying to bait in consumers?...

skacore 11-08-2012 03:12 PM

I don't use Twitter but I know that's where it's from... from my understanding it's basically like a key word on what the message is about

#NHLLockout, #SidneyCrosby, sh*t like that I'm guessing it turns up in searches and whatnot

JKidd 11-08-2012 03:29 PM

Skacore has it.

It's a tag so people (and companies) can track how many times a show or event get tagged.

Think of it like our tags below the threads. If you want to search on "Boogaard." Every time someone entered "boogaard" as a tag in a thread or post, you're going to get that result.

For Twitter... its really just so the channels/stations know people are talking about something, and they can then post it on the screen.

Test their sensors and see if you can get something past them. For example:
This show sucks donkey nuts #sonsofanarchy

Gotta say, I didn't think Twitter was going to take off the way it did, but I guess that's why I'm not a billionaire. #wishididitdifferently

The people running Twitter aren't billionaires. Twitter isn't making bank yet. I'm still waiting on that one. :D

Thanks, now it's more annoying knowing what it means. I'm pretty much convinced that people that follow others on twitter are either gay or have no life at all.

It's good for certain things: following news sources, the NHL trade deadline, UFA day, that sort of thing. Like every internet venue (including this message board) it has its assholes that make it look bad, haha. A hashtag is supposed to be an easy way to see all stories related to topic X. You click #topicX and then see what everyone is writing on that subject. But now it's become cool to write nonsensical ones that relate to nothing. And I agree, that's bull****.

You are a better man than me. I still have no idea what the **** a hash tag is even after reading the explanations.

if you have a twitter account type in #CBA in the search bar...results will show up with tweets by everyone who used that in their tweet

it's just like using the search engine on here by either word or tag

I'm gay because I can get and send news quickly? You have excellent logic.
