Spam email question

A few minutes ago I was checking my school email. After reading an email, I clicked on "Next" at the top of the screen. The next email happened to be a spam email.

Now here is my question. Is simply opening up a spam email enough to give you a virus or anything, or do you have to download an attachment to get a virus/trojan?

The email was from some weird address, but it was just some message with no attachments.

I'm running a few virus scans right now, but I just wanted to know if the simply reading an email can cause a virus or something.

opening an email wont do anything but if you click a link or dl an attachment and open it, GG. Even if you open some of these links though, nothing may happen, it may just be phishing for info that you have to manually enter.

No it won't give you a virus, but it can send a message back to the sender that you opened the email resulting in more spam.

Your computer is ****ed. As a precautionary measure, run a big earth magnet over your hard drive.

Well, since you've already opened it, we're going to have to test how susceptible you are to spam and email viruses. I went into the asshole of the internet and signed you up for all kinds of giveaways and surveys. Hope this helps.

This is usually the 2nd best thing to do, after getting rid of system32.

Sometimes I go and check my really old yahoo email from like the late 90s... holy spam, it's unreal. And its still coming. even though I stopped using that one a long time ago. My hotmail email is pretty good, rarely does a spam email break through to the normal box, although sometimes real emails sneak into the spam box.

Sometimes if you're bored, fun thing to do: send a response to an email you got four+ years ago, writing AS THOUGH You just read it. Totally throws them in a ****ing loop!
