Must have programs!

Board is a little dead so I made a little list. All of this stuff is free.

1. CCleaner - Awesome at cleaning up registry files which can slow you computer down a lot. Also good for deleting junk files.

2. VLC - The best video player bar none. Plays 99% of all popular media files known to man by default. Buttload of settings and customization to boot. Freeware, if you can spare donate to these people. Thats how good it its.

3. Chrome- After using Firefox for years, I have to say Chrome is now the best browser out there for the time being. Good amount of extensions. (Adblock + and Ghostry are must haves)

4. Notepad ++- Updated notepad, now you can have tabs for each document. (Very handy)

5. Gimp- Just as good as photoshop but with some minor differences. Plus you dont have to pay for it.

6. Winroll- A linux feature that makes Windows much more better. Have a bunch of windows open. Just left click on the top to minimize it to the bar. Works on all Window versions.

7. Rocket Dock- An apple feature for Windows. Good for organizing Icons.

8. CDburnerXp- All your DVD/CD burning in this simple little program. Easy to use and Free.

9. KMP Player- The VLC media player of music. Not a resource hog either.

10. Avast Free Editon- Nice free anti virus, does not bog down the computer.

10.1 Super Antispyware Free Edition- Pretty self explanatory. Easy to use not resource demanding. Computer is very safe with this tandom.

11. Tixati - Very customizable torrent client. I like it better than Utorrent.

I was a Firefox user for a few years, but I chose to try Chrome when I got my new laptop in February, and I haven't gone back to Firefox. The only issue I have with Chrome is when I type "youtube.com" in the address bar and "youjizz.com" shows up as the auto-complete.

If you're a photographer at any level, Adobe Lightroom is a must. I use it all the time to touch up my amateur shots. But you have to be careful with it and have a little photo know-how so you don't overdo it.

I use Pro Tools 10 for my music production stuff.

As much as I've loved VLC (and other powerhouse media players) in the past I always end up going back to Media Player Classic. I just like the simplicity. And rarely if ever run in to codec problems. Streamlined would be the best word I guess.

Not to turn this into another browser thread (we have enough of those), but what about Rockmelt? Someone convinced me to download it. It's a little ugly, but I like the idea of COMPLETE FB integration so my chat window is always available. Still, I can't seem to wheen myself off of chrome!

It took me years to switch from IE to Firefox but since switching I'm never going back IE is just rubbish it never worked properly and I'm pretty sure it got worse as the later editions came out

Maybe when Churchill is no longer Prime Minister you'll switch to Chrome.

If its Norton yea. (Seems to be the go to program for ISPs) There are a few programs worth the money. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and one of the best programs. You need a legit copy of Windows though.

It is not Norton. I am not sure what it is actually, its just called Rogers Protection (the internet provider here), and yes I have a legit copy of windows.

Pretty much everything through Rogers is a tremendous ripoff. I speak from knowledge, since I have Internet, home phone, cell, and cable from them.

Isn't that security crap free with your hispeed Internet, though...?

VLC has gotten more and more bloated over time, just like Firefox did before it. MPC is the new VLC just like Chrome is the new Firefox.

I have every web browser under the sun installed, but I've been using Chrome more often for it's speed, especially on my older Dell laptop. Only problem I have with Chrome is my video capture software doesn't like it.

Real Player is a must have for its trimmer and conversion programs if nothing else. A quick way to trim fights from downloaded games. I don't have the latest version, they screwed that up. I use SP.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find VLC bloated at all. If anything, it has only gotten better. Anything Windows Media Player won't play, VLC will or it won't play at all.

ImgBurn is what I use for burning DVDs/CDs. Free and easy to use.
