The Hobbit

Just saw the first of the Hobbit trilogy last night, and it was great. I never read the book or cared for LOTR, but I thought this movie was perfect. It actually makes me wanna give LOTR another chance.

I saw all 3 Lord of the Rings movies and thought they were fantastic. For some reason though, I have no interest in this Hobbit movie

I had the opposite reaction to The Hobbit. My short review is in the 'Meh Movie' thread.

Trust me, you have to read the book, it will add to your experience! I'll go see this very soon. Anybody watch the Colbert Report on Comedy Central? Colbert interviewed the actors who play Gollum, the Hobbit, wizard and the director Peter Jackson on separate shows recently, it was informative.

I saw this movie yesterday in 3D and it was awesome. The pace and action was very good, definitely NOT "slow". I like Rivendale and how Sauron was there, don't they know he's a backstabber?! Gollum was cool, I feel bad for him, "what's in my pocket" is not a riddle! The scenes of the dwarfes fighting in the caves were spectacular. The movie ended with the dragon waking up beneth the gold treasure. Looking forward to the next one. Like I sad before read the book, too good to pass up. There has to be round 3 coming between the super orc (bad with names) and the king dwarf. I like when the super orc said something like "I smell fear, just like when I killed your father". Don't tease a dwarf's ancestry!

Sorry, should have put spoilers on first time.

Becuase of you I went into the movie expecting to be bored haha.
From your post in the "meh" thread

but before that it is almost painfully slow. Didn't feel like they needed to reintroduce places like Rivendell as they have all been done in LotR series. Some of the dwarves are ok, some of them are a little too goofy and retarded. The one needs to fix his god damn hair and I hope the fat one dies. The movie in general tries to be a little too cutesy, Gandalf's sheepish nod as the elf queen is mind-talking to him was gay, but a group of nerds a few rows down apparently thought it was hilarious. Don't like the pale orc as a main enemy, it just seems like a stretch that he is so powerful.
Rivenendell is important, without spoling it for others it refreshes who the elf queen is , brings in a future villain, and shows the dwarfes are willing to leave saftey. Speaking of the dwarfes, they're supposed to be goofy and dumb looking. That's the whole point! A bunch of nobodys going on an impossible quest. It was a good intro at the begining. We have two different tastes in movies because this was far from a "meh" movie.

There are limits, man. That was an issue I had with Gimli in LoTR too, they make him such a clown and it's disappointing. These dwarves are even worse. You can't tell me seeing the one's tri-point hair doesn't make you want something bad to happen to him.

Every time they switched to that during an action sequence I was hoping it would be to show an orc spear catching him in the chest or him falling off a mountain to his death. Alas...

I feel it was a 'meh' movie because they took it more towards a Disney direction then what I prefer. I would much prefer the D&D version of dwarves than the Snow White version.

And I'll repost my entire Hobbit review in here for posterity...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Starts off really slow. The last third of the movie picks up (Around when Gollum shows up), but before that it is almost painfully slow. The rock giant fight seemed lacking. I get that there wouldn't be a movie otherwise, but I hate the way the eagles swoop in to save the dwarves in the tree only to drop them off about 500 miles from their destination, I would be mad as sh*t that Gandalf didn't have them carry the group closer. Also in the goblin caves Gandalf casts a nova or something and kills like 50 goblins but then decides never to do it again? Whatever. The actor who plays Bilbo is pretty good, and Smaug seems like he's going to be pretty bad ass in the next two movies.

I think that this is an example of why Hollywood should follow the story as it was written. The Hobbit should have been done before Lord of the Rings as it was intended to be read, now people like RC are all confused.

I agree with the

. This is probably why I can wait until someone gives me the movie as a gift before I see it. Thy were more on the bad ass side in the book and from the commercials and clips I've seen they look ****ing stupid.

I'm not confused at all. Just disappointed with the dumbass dwarf interpretations and the movie trying to be too 'cutesy'.

I will say that they are not ALL reminiscent of Dopey. Some are legit BAs. I'de say it's about a 50/50 ratio of dumb to badass, it's just the ones that are dumb are REALLY dumb.

You should still see the movie though.

Wasnt too impress with it. I wish they wouldnt have made it so child friendly and have it have a more serious like the first trilogy. I think the first hour or so was pretty solid though, last hour and a half didnt sit well with me.
