Well look at that. Someone died. Guess it's time to ban high speed racing.

I posted a ton of stuff in the IndyCar thread. I just don't have the heart to post it all again.

The tribute to him at the end was one of the hardest things in motorsports I have ever seen. My heart bleeds for his kids. 6 months and 2 years old, there is a great picture of him kissing the bricks after winning the 500 with his 2 year old son.

The racing is not the problem, it was a combination of problems, his roll loop failed, the catch fences need to be improved and racing is already a violent sport.

The point is blame shouldn't be placed today, his spirit and the person he was should be celebrated. I never got a chance to meet Dan but have had the pleasure of meeting Roger Penske and Chip Ganassi and both raved about him if you even mentioned his name. A great human being and a guy who always had a smile.

RIP Dan.

Wish I could feel sorry but when you travel at those speeds it is bound to happen. I see they are already blaming it on the track, the number of cars, the fence, the wall etc. etc. I look forward to seeing what else they can blame this on.

Then I guess I can say I don't feel sorry for Boogaard then? Thats an idiotic statement.

You don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all.

Horrific crash..No need to blame it on anything. Its a dangerous sport and always hard to see something like that happen, especially to a young guy with a family

That was real bad, Wheldon was my favorite driver in Indy car, I was excited for him to get a full time ride again next season in Danicas car. RIP.

What an awful crash. Watching the highlights on the tube and this comes on? Unreal.

RIP Dan Wheldon

Couple of things to put it in perspective. They actually had to make repairs to the track, wall, and catch fence as well.

Off road champ Rick Huseman has also died in a plane crash with his brother as well today. Tough year for racing and sports as a whole. Soo many lifes lost at too young of an age. RIP.

The racing community is strong and close knit, they each have each other shoulders to cry on and to mourn the loss of one of their own. I thank God for their safety every time they strap in, some days they don't all make it out. I found the tribute to Dan especially touching.

[HD] Dan Wheldon 5 Lap Tribute At Las Vegas...

RIP brother, you will always be with us and you made such an impact on so many people. 33 is too young, but as a driver their isn't a better place to let it all go. Your spirit will live on inside all of us for as long as we live.

I've never really been a fan of Indy, but as stated before, racing is a tightly knit community. Watching the tribute laps were very touching and my heart felt condolences go out to all of Dan's friends and family.

I knew a little bit about him from his Indy 500 victories and knew a lot of people looked up to him. The crash was horrific to say the least but at the end of the day that's racing and he went out doing something he loved to do. Whether it's NASCAR or Indy, it is always emotional when something like this happens and I hate seeing it.

R.I.P. Dan Wheldon. Cheers to a fantastic race car driver and an even better person.
