F1 to NBC in 2013

NBC Sports Group and Formula One Management have announced a four-year partnership starting in 2013 that provides the American broadcasters with exclusive United States media rights to all Grand Prix races, qualifying and practice sessions on all platforms and devices.

NBC Sports Group will televise all 20 races of the 2013 season - four on NBC and 16 on NBC Sports Network - as well as qualifying, practice sessions, studio shows and re-airs, amounting to more than 100 hours of programming annually.

“We are thrilled to add the top international open-wheel racing series to our already-strong motorsports portfolio,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “Formula One is a perfect fit for the NBC Sports Group as it provides content across three platforms - broadcast, cable and digital - for nine months a year with more than 100 hours of premier programming annually.”

“NBC and its various media assets have a huge profile throughout the United States and I am obviously delighted to have concluded this agreement. I feel that they will promote Formula One to a level not seen before in the United States,” said Bernie Ecclestone, Formula One Group CEO. “I very much look forward to working with NBC. Together, we will endeavour to broaden the scope of Formula One coverage available to US viewers incorporating additional digital content in particular that has not been available before.”

The Canadian Grand Prix in June as well as 2013’s final three rounds in November, among them the Austin, Texas race, will air on NBC, while the remaining 16 rounds will air on NBC Sports Network. All 20 races will be live streamed on NBC Sports Live Extra, the NBC Sports Group’s live-stream platform that is available online at NBCSports.com as well as on mobile and tablet apps.

NBC will announce additional programming and scheduling information, as well as on-air commentators, at a later date.

Suppose to tie into the IndyCar races which is good and gives NBC a true motorsports platform to compete with an ESPN and Fox.

Also suppose to now see SPEED channel be rebranded to FoxSports1 coming in January. We just saw NASCAR reup with Fox for almost $2.5 Billion and now it looks like Fox will also air the Trucks series on Fox too or FX.

You must be really bored if it ever comes to watching this ****.

It's not even ability of the drivers that is key, it's the car.

It was a shame to see team orders play out again, but what can you do. Brawn is quite a prick.
