Fight Announcements/Rumors

Figured it'd be good to have one thread covering all of the latest rumored or announced bouts.

While Nate Marquardt (29-8-2) was awaiting a potentially pending bout with Dan Henderson for UFC 108, it appears he has decided to move on and face Chael Sonnen (24-10-1) instead at UFC 110.

Sources have informed me that the two are awaiting bout agreements and will be added to an already stellar card that the UFC is building for their debut in Sydney, Australia in February.

with all the injuries, it's becoming a lot like pride. Who knows who is fighting.

good call on this.. PRIDE was a mess, and people hated it. that'll probably switch over to the UFC soon. not that the UFC is the only MMA around, just that they're dealing with so many stars being hurt. strikeforce's time is NOW to make a run. these UFC shows coming up are ok, but by no means great.

IMO Strikeforce just doesn't have the stable outside of the obvious fighters to make a run. If you think the UFC has problems making good matches consistently, it would be way worse with Strikeforce. The best thing would be to co-promote with all major organizations, but I don't think certain ego's would allow that... or if it is even possible if they would.

im not saying make these blockbuster cards..( they're usually the worst ones).. but put out steady, competetive, entertaining fights on TV that the public can see. if they plan on doing these monster shows every 4 months they're going to fail and fail miserably.

i loved it, but there was a lot of crap in the organization. the thing with PRIDE is that i felt most of the hyped fight lived up to it. but they had some terrible fights, and terrible cards to go with it. i didnt mean people didnt like PRIDE, it the fight card changes that they hated. some occured only a couple days before the fight.

Word is Renzo Gracie will be fighting Matt Hughes at UFC 109. Hasn't been confirmed though to my knowledge.

UFC 109: Matt Hughes vs Renzo Gracie

Quote:

According to Heavy.com, Matt Hughes is in negotiations to fight MMA legend Renzo Gracie at UFC 109 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas.

After being dethroned by top welterweights Georges St. Pierre and Thiago Alves, Hughes has apparently turned to whooping on senior fighters looking for a quick payday. He already turned down fights with top contenders Mike Swick and Jon Fitch, citing he’s only looking for “interesting” fights.

This won’t be the first the first time Hughes has took on a member of the legendary Gracie family. Hughes defeated Royce Gracie by TKO at UFC 60 back in 2006.

Renzo Gracie (13-6-1), 42, hasn’t fought since 2007, when he won a DQ victory over Frank Shamrock due to illegal knees to the head of a downed opponent.

Yup, still seems to be in negotiations, but I would almost confirm it. This site cagetoday is right on will all rumors and never post b/s. I think it's the best MMA site out there.

Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk (33-4-1 MMA, 7-4 UFC) has agreed to return to action at UFC 108 against Rafaello Oliveira (9-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC).

I spoke to Renzo Gracie yesterday at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York, and contrary to earlier rumors, he won't be fighting Matt Hughes in his Octagon debut. The match up though has indeed been talked about and will most likely happen, but it was actually negotiated for his second UFC fight, and not the first.

No word yet on when or who he will debut against, but for the most part it seems like the UFC management wants him to shake off the rust and to re-introduce him to the fans first before taking on Matt Hughes.
