Butterbean fighting Mixed Martial Art in Japan, Dec. 31

Butterbean will be fighting at the K-1 new year's eve event in a mixed martial arts match. He will be fighting 155 lbs and UFC veteren, Genki Sudo. Sudo is an expert in submission wrestling with a record of 7-3-1. The match will be 5, 3 minute rounds. Also on this card is the Bob Sapp vs Akebono fight.

Could be intresting in the long run..

I think if Butterbean is under 300lbs he is going to do quite well. I remember back yonder Butterbean fought Lance Gunn who won a WWF "shoot" tourney. KOd him in about 10 seconds. These guys have skills unlike lance gunn, but Butterbean will hurt this little guy bad imo. I dont know that a 155lbs guy could choke out or armbar a guy Butterbeans size if he was freely given the hold. Butterbean is a fat bastard, he could get tired, but with his ring expierience that will likely take at least 3 minutes no matter how poorly conditioned. Id like to see him fight real opposition.

I think Butterbean might get his fat ass choked out. Either that or arm barred in a bad way. The trick is gonna be gettin in on him without clipped with a punch.

I don't think a 155lbs guy can sink the choke deep for long on a guy like Butterbean. No way he works an arm bar, I remember K Monday curling J Lewis out of an armbar and they were both the same size.

Mma

Certainly more skills required than western boxing. Nobody knows the closed hand strike better than a western boxer[but then that and footwork is their game].Iwould like to see Tyson entered, hopefully against Hoost.

Very surprised Sudo won. I addressed the arm bar/choke stuff because I didn't think there was anyway Sudo could be effective with them no matter what the rules. But when I first considered the question of Butterbean being in the K1 I assumed it was pure striking as the previous K1s. Im guessing the heal hook is a standing submission, or did he catch a winded, bent over Bean with a heel kick? I actually thought BB was quick and powerful enough to do well at K1, but I really want to see Botha pursue mma, or even Tyson. Id prefer Botha, or a current top 10 hwt to see how the striking mmas do against a known quanity hwt boxer.

Here's the description of the Butterbean fight off Sherdog.com.

American fighter Butterbean brought a 100 kg weight advantage into the ring against opponent Genki Sudo of Japan. At the pre-event press conference, Butterbean said the match would be "brute strength against skill." Replied Sudo, "I am an expert in MMA, I'll show everyone that skill is greater than power."

This time, skill won out. After dancing into the ring with a team of cheerleaders (to the old rock and roll hit Wild Thing!), the wily Sudo deftly drew Butterbean into a game of cat-and-mouse. Sudo kept circling his opponent, staying close to the ropes, then periodically snuck in to hit Butterbean with low Kung Fu kicks. The frustrated Butterbean tried to get a hold of Sudo, who slipped away repeatedly -- on one occasion executing a summersault to narrowly escape. Late in the first, Sudo dove in on Butterbean's leg and got the big guy down. They mixed it up for awhile, Sudo showing that superior skill. Early in the second, Sudo and Butterbean again went to the mat, and here Sudo slipped down to get an ankle hold on, then twisted a bit to submit Butterbean. The crowd loved this fight, and exploded in with delight when Butterbean tapped out."
Also from the same card, Francois Botha lost for the second straight time under K-1 rules, to Yusuke Fujimoto by decision. Not very close either. His first loss was to Cyril Abidi by decision in early December. He was winning that fight when he was knocked down by a kick in the third, enough to change the decision.

Mike Tyson was a guest announcer for this card, broadcasting from Hawaii.

TYSON is a joke and a disgrace to all human beings... he has been finished since being battered by Holyfield in their FIRST fight....The only "fight" he shoudl be in is fighting with the other monkeys in the zoo which is PRECISELY where he belongs...

The end of the Butterbean - Sudo fight was pretty funny as Sudo bounced off the ropes like in pro wrestling and basically tried a flying dropkick on Butterbean. They both went down and that's where Genki got the heel hook.

After reading the description of this fight, I really want to see it. Im thinking it could have been a 'work'. This sort of fix happen all the time in Japan, and the absurd professional wrestling tactic of bouncing off the ropes scream fix.

Gygax I saw the Botha-Adibi fight, and Abdibi pussed out. Botha struck him while he was on the ground and was DQed in the first. Adbibi landed nothing, looked terrified, and claimed he couldn't continue. How did Botha lose to Fuji?

Ceehound your opinion of Tyson morals mean nothing, people will still pay to watch him fight.

That was the first Botha-Adibi fight that was a disqualification on 10/11/03. The rematch took place 12/6/03 in which Adibi landed the big kick to floor Botha in the 3rd round and get the decision.

I am waiting for the tape of this latest event, but I've read a bunch of descriptions from a few forums which all say Fuji dominated the fight with kicks. He also knocked Botha down in the third with a left hook. Here's Sherdog's take.
Botha had taken a lot of punishment from Abidi's low kicks at the GP Final on Dec 12th, and here he tried to close the distance faster, coming in to work hooks and uppercuts. Fujimoto did get some low kicks in, and from the second threw more kicks to the body and up toward the head. Botha's punches, meanwhile, were just not connecting.

In the third, as the White Buffalo was charging, Fujimoto got a tight left hook up to the jaw to score a knockdown. Try as he might, Botha could not get back into this one -- when he stayed outside Fujimoto worked the kicks, and when he closed in, too often he ended up in the clinch. Judges awarded Fujimoto a well-earned unanimous decision.
Here's Botha's MMA career card

Francois "The White Buffalo" Botha 0-3-0

K-1 - Premium 2003 Dynamite December 31, 2003 Loss Yusuke Fujimoto 3:00 3R, Decision (Unanimous)
K-1 - World Grand Prix 2003 Final December 6, 2003 Loss Cyril Abidi 3:00 3R, Decision (Unanimous)
K-1 - World Grand Prix 2003 Opening Round October 11, 2003 Loss Cyril Abidi 1R, DQ (Punch on the Ground)

I would love to see Tyson in one of these type events. Washed up as a boxer, he has the right mentality and natural skill to work inside the kicks, yet avoid a clinch using inside punching.
