Richmond trades Dennis Sicard to Huntsville for Row and the rights to Tuomi
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Huntsville Havoc Head Coach Eric Soltys announced today that the team has acquired forward Dennis Sicard in a trade with the Richmond Renegades.
Sicard had played in 21 games this season for the Renegades and scored two goals and recorded six assists. He played in 27 games earlier this season for the Tulsa Oilers and scored one goal and recorded one assist. He saw action in 38 games last season for Richmond and scored six goals and added seven assists. He scored three goals in two playoff games for the Renegades. The Havoc sent defenseman Dylan Row to the Renegades and the rights Mike Tuomi were included in the deal. Row had played in 31 games this season and scored two goals and recorded 11 assists.

OK NOW THAT I LOOK AT THIS TRADE AND THINK TO MY SELF. ON DEFENSE WE HAVE VANDERMEER, COLE, KIYAGA, OKE, PRICE, RC, WEIBEL, AND WITHERS. OK SO WE GET RID OF A FORWARD AND PICK UP ANOTHER DEFENSEIVE PLAYER. GET RID OF WEIBEL OR OKE BEFORE SICARD. HARVIE DOESN'T WANT TO BE AROUND NEXT YEAR I GUESS.THIS IS UNBELIEVIBLE.

i dont understand this move either. i know harvie will say try to do better when asked about this but we had 7 and now 8 dmen. weibal has never impressed me, oke has some good moments but it seems to me he would rather play forward, and row has not impressed me at all. i personally thought dennis would come in and be alot more productive scoring wise especially after the great playoff series he had. but he has not scored alot, fighting some and it does look like something is different in the way he has played this year. did i want him traded hell no but unless tuomi actually comes and plays this deal was terrible. we gave up our only energy player for another crappy dman. and harvie wants fans to come out and support the gades, this trade was not the best thing in the eyes of many fans. the pep rally should be interesting if alot of people say somethin to harvie about the trade.

unbelieveable, real stupid move. i will still come out and see 'em when they get home but i won't be happy. dennis was the number 1 fan favorite here. it is sad to see them give up this easy, they wanted big crowds on the homestand and i think they just screwed that up. dang it

Well hopefully Harvie made a pretty penny on Sicard's jersey at the auction. Unbelievably stupid move, I'm still pissed. Might almost be worth the trip to Huntsville when the Gades will meet up with Dennis. He's gotta be pissed.

Allan's Reply to a similar thread on the Yahoo Group.
"We also wish Dennis had reported to Richmond at the beginning
of the season to work on his scoring skills. The game has changed this season with only 1 or two teams having "designated enforcers". Most teams sent their bad boys home just before the season started. In 21 games in Richmond this season Dennis had 2 goals and 6 assists to go with 63 PIMs. Everyone seems intent on pointing out Dennis's fighting skills; which are without question quite good. However, in the 21 games since his return Dennis has been in 7 fights with only 3 fights on home ice and none since February 6th. All of his fights at home and two on the road were against Twin City. Both Coach Goudie and I knew this trade would disappoint some of our fans and that couldn't be avoided. However, contrary to the unintelligent post of one person, we are in the business of winning games and championships and with only 8 games remaining in the regular season we need to do everything possible to position ourselves for a cup run." Allan I guess he is saying that they need 9 defenders to play the last 8 games so that we make the playoffs. I just dont get it. |

can't disagree with what Harvie is saying to some degree about Sicards performance thus far, but he did a great job fore checking and disrupting the play in the oppositions end causing numerous turnovers and keeping out of thier control, thought he did a good job on the defensive side of the puck also and looked good on the PK. still IMO gave alot more positive things to the team than what they will recieve in this trade.

bummer
i can clearly see the renegades fans point of view. sicard did not look great on paper but he did look good on the ice. he was a fan favorite and brought a lot of excitement to the renegades games. i was at the fayetteville game when he fought nattress and gave him a nice shiner. the only question that i probably have here is why dylan row? his stats have not been that impressive either so i am not sure what richmond is trying to gain here. his stats:

I know Sicard was probably pretty expensive as a player ... But this has become Harvie's M.O. of running fans fav's out of town. Someone posted in another thread about the players that he has one way or another gotten rid of.
David Micthel wasn't the best player but he played hard and wasn't affraid of anyone. Fans liked him alot. Matt Goody got better as a player as time went on. Possibly top heavy in the league while he was here. Put fans in the seats. Dennis Sicard was an ok player, good energy guy who played hard. He was also very good with the fans walking around and talking to everyone when he was hurt. He also, put fans in the seats. Good or bad, Richmond's favorite players are the tough guys. When you keep running them off the team and owner start to lose favor with a majority of our fans. |

harvie must not want fans in the seats or else he wouldn't be doing those things

Now that I have had a chance to diget this news, I will post. Dennis Sicard was not a highly skilled hockey player. He would tell you that. He had blips of offense, but created lots of opportunities that you don't get credit for on paper. But he was a franchise hockey player. He hustled every night, gave 110% every shift, enforced when needed, but most importantly he entertained the fans of Richmond - and even the visiting team. He was the guy people came to see play, he was the guy people talked about during intermission and he was the guy everyone waited to talk to after the game. He played with the young fans, and everytime I saw him - the line just to talk to him was incredible. His presence is not matched by any other player in that locker room right now.
A franchise player can mean much more to an organization than a bunch of goal scorers. Sicard was that Franchise player - and will be somewhere else. With Harvie being a businessman, perhaps he missed that day in school. |
