Pensacola, Fla. -
Pensacola Ice Flyers head coach, Gary Graham, announced Monday morning that the organization has placed goaltender Steve Christie on waivers.
"This was a very difficult decision to make but one that we felt was necessary," Graham stated. "We understand and appreciate the success he helped bring the Ice Flyers last season, but this season, we feel that it wasn't the right fit and have decided to part ways with Steve."
Christie arrived in Pensacola in late November of 2011 and went 11-2-0 before being called up to the
Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League (CHL). He returned to Pensacola before the Ice Flyers began their 2012 playoffs and was an integral part in their championship run and began this season as the front-runner for the starting goalie position.
"Steve is a good goalie and we wish him the best of luck, and we hope he has success with his next team," Graham commented.
