Knoxville, TN - The
Knoxville Ice Bears have agreed to terms with two key returnees: David Segal and Ricky Helmbrecht.
Segal, who is the Ice Bears all-time penalty minutes leader, is returning following his most productive offensive season; placing third on the Ice Bears with 21 goals while leading the team in penalty minutes (198) for the third consecutive year. The native of Vancouver, BC is entering his 6th professional season; his 5th with the Ice Bears. He will fill one of the three veteran spots allotted to each SPHL team.

Helmbrecht is entering his second season as a
Knoxville Ice Bears defensemen after spending three seasons in the German Oberliga and a season in the Australian league. Helmbrecht scored 14 goals for the Ice Bears last season, tying him for second among SPHL defensemen.
"Getting Ricky re-signed was a top priority for us this summer," said Head Coach Mike Craigen. "With a year of North American pro under his belt, the bar of expectation is going to be raised and I expect him to be the foundation of a very strong defensive core this year."
