Dumm went no where on the ground and held them to only 3 points. Granted the Falcons aren't the best team but at least we won.
The defense was outstanding. The pass rush was great - as we have become a very blitz happy team - which is great to see, as EJ Henderson and Chad Greenway both have great speed on the rush and can get through blockers very nicely.

However, the over the top help wasnt there. Dwight Smith didnt play well at all. He was very slow in getting over to cover guys and wasnt able to lay the lumber to guys that did come over the middle. The corners were playing very well all game. Great man up team, as Marcus McCauly and Antoine Winfield were great. Sharper looked good in coming through with help - but Smith was brutal.

The offense, looked awful. Peterson looked good, very good. But Jackson was indecisive, he stared down his receivers, he didnt make things happen with his legs and his accuracy was way off. I hope he improves - as we're going to need something to combat teams putting 8-10 people in the box to stop the run.

Sounds like are defense is shaping up good then. I thought when we got Dwight Smith he was going to be the same Smith that was with Tampa. This being Greenways first year I expect him to be pretty soild. Jackson should improve through the season and hopefully find a target he really likes. Did you hear that the Lions said they will beat us hands down next week?

I havent heard that, but I'm sure I'll catch it eventually.

For a team that has beat the Raiders, those Lions have a lot of confidence.

Who is there QB? John Kitna? Should be fun to see him falter under pressure.

Yeah Kitna will be on his back all day if we bring the same pressure. The Raiders were getting after him really good so we shouldn't have a problem. The Lions said this last week that in week 2 they were going to have no problem with us. They can talk all they want because we all no what they wil do this season they are the Lions they don't no how to win.

Meh, let'em talk. They're the ones that'll have to bring down Adrian Peterson and survive our defense.

I agree with everything you said JKidd, the D was very good but the offense sputtered badly and blew alot of really good field position in the 1st half. Sydney Rice looked decent and could move up as the season progresses if he continues to improve. I hope he does because Wade is awful as a #1 wide out. Peterson looked great and showed he can handle the load after Taylor went out early. I did NOT like seeing him out there on the kick return teams and I guess Childress did not learn his leason from last year about playing #1 picks on special teams. Jackson did not play well but did not play horribly either and at least he did not turn the ball over (the 1 int was not his fault entirely as it went thru the TE hands) to often. He had a couple of bad throws behind recievers and threw one ball into double coverage but I expect that from a young QB.
On Defense rookie Brian Robinson looked like a stud pass rusher getting 2 sacks and a couple nice pressures. Greenway made plays all over the field but showed a little slowness in pass coverage and was out of position a couple times. As a whole the D played pretty well actually and I hope it continues.
The offense needs to pick it up though because you cant count on getting 2 defensive TDs every game and you sure wont get 6 sacks every game either. I was very happy with the game though and look forward to putting it to Detroit this week.

Kitna is a good QB Jkidd. Mark my words, by seasons end he will have thrown for over 4000 yards and 25 td's. I am not saying the lions are gonna beat the vikes, but this is a different team. Secondly the vikes dont impress me, should be a good game.

You're right, he just might. With all the talent around him, I'd hope he does.

The Vikes didnt impress me either. The defense looked good, but it was against Joey Harrington (haha, that name ring a bell!?) and a lifeless Falcons team - so who knows how truely good they are?

As you said, it should be a good game - and I'm looking forward to it.

I took that from the game as well. He looked great on the blitz, and he ran through a few blockers in route to pressuring the QB, but his pass coverage looked very sloppy. There were a few plays, in zone coverage, where he looked confused on what zone he was supposed to have.

EJ Henderson looked very good I might add as well. His run stopping looked great, his pass rush was ****ing great, and his pass coverage was pretty good.

I understand you guys are excited about your opening day win. That's more than I can say about Philly. But really, is week 2 going to be as easy a game as you two say? Minny beat who? Atlanta. The Falcons pose no threat anymore and their offensive line sucks. They are built to protect a left-handed quarterback. Trust me, the Vikes have a lot to prove before they start knocking off the Lions like old times.

Trust me I am not picking the vikes to win the super bowl or anything even close. A realistic look at their sched. has me thinking a 5-11 or 6-10 record is likely. But hey, we can at least be happy with our opening day victory and hope for something better cant we?
