A contract extension for Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress that many thought would be done during the team's recent bye week will be done soon, according to a source close to the situation.

Childress has one more year on his contract after this season. He has helped bring quarterback Brett Favre out of retirement and lead the Vikings to an 8-1 record that is good enough for first place in the NFC North.

Since he arrived in Minnesota in 2006, Childress has helped improve the Vikings' win totals in each of his seasons there from six in 2006, to eight in 2007, to 10 last season, to the eight that Minnesota now has after nine games.

Everybody is going crazy in MN. People are crawling out from under rocks about how we need to build the Vikes a stadium. All of this is because of one person and one person only. Brett Mofo Favre. The guy was the best thing to happen to Childress.

Instead of us calling for Chilli's head, he is now a savior. The Vikes are selling out, and 10 months ago you couldn't give away tickets even to a playoff game. Tax paying public is ready to throw a couple hundred million to build a freakin stadium now. WTF?

Sh1t changes awfully fast. Amazing.

Its ****ing pathetic!

That's great if Favre takes us to the big show. Great.

Then what next year when Brett calls it quits again? Entrust the future of the franchise in TJack or Sage?

If the team wants to think long term, look at life after #4. It doesn't look all that great. And it doesn't look any better, but dimmer, IMO, with Childress trying to mold another QB.

The Minnesota Vikings reached a contract extension with Brad Childress that will keep the coach with the team through the 2013 season, a source told ESPN.com Thursday.

I hope this exact situation shakes out...

The Vikes go deep in the playoffs, and then when Brett retires, the team falls back to being so unbelievably bad that games aren't even sold out, and people call for his head.

So, I personally, can say "I told you so."

I'm going to make a prediction that E.J. Henderson never plays football ever again. Anyone see the leg injury? it was one of the nastiest sports injuries i have ever seen. it looked like his leg below the knee wasn't attached to anything.

YouTube- Minnesota Vikings E.J. Henderson Breaks...

That was about as horrific as it gets, on the injury and the actual game.

Jared Allen was double teamed and assisted all night. And Ray Edwards was non-existent on the other side. The blitz never got there, and Warner dismantled the Vikes pass coverage.

I'd like to see Benny Sapp announce his retirement today. He has been beyond brutal ever since he was named a starter for the injured Antoine Winfield. He is ****ing garbage, plain straight and simple.

Not to make fun of EJ, but, I wonder if we hear him talk in the 3rd person anymore? He's a great player, but a completely arrogant prick off the field.

That was the first time the Vikings looked like the Packers when Brett was here.

I'd like to personally thank you Josh for not putting up a vBook for that game because I had full intentions of putting major bank on it.

That leg injury goes into the top 10 for sure. Jinxed by the announcers as they had mentioned earlier in the game that he is finally back to form after the foot problem.

Just read something interesting. This was the first game the Vikes played someone over .500. And they got blown out. Are they overated?
