I'd choose Minnesota, since they are playing them today.

All week, leaders from both sides have been claiming it'll be a sweep for their respective teams; but the national & local commentators seem to be in favor of the Eagles on this one, and I'd have to agree.

The Official 2005 Philadelphia Eagles Football Thread

A new season means time for a new thread...

It's been an eventful weekend for Eagles fans. Everyone in the city breathed a huge sigh of relief when the Eagles were able to sign Trotter for five more years. Ike Reese and Keith Adams are among notable Eagles free agents that are still under talks with the Eagles, as well as other teams from around the league. Jermaine Mayberry also signed with the New Orleans Saints today, opening up a starting job for Shaun Andrews.

One concern I have is Brian Westbrook. The Birds signed him to a one year deal recently. Are they going to attempt to work out a long-term deal involving Westbrook during the course of the season?

I have an odd feeling they are thinking of doing something on draft day. Do you think a team who has a pick where the top 3 RBs in the draft take a trade for Westbrook and a 1st round pick?

Also why is Freddie still on the roster? Do they think they can trade him? He is only 25 and an former 1st rounder. Maybe a 4th round pick? I can't see any other reason for him to still be on the roster.

I think if the Giants move of Burress it will spawn a counter by the Eagles. I think if the Giants get Plax the Eagles reply with a skill position guy to work with McNabb.

What will they do in the draft and will they sign anyone soon?

I doubt they would trade Westbrook and if they do they are completely retarded. I think they might be able to trade Freddie possibly for a mid to late draft pick or a special teamer. With all the draft picks the Eagles have, I wouldn't be suprised if they trade up to grab Mike Williams.

Some Eagles news for today...

J.R. Reed injured his leg in a freak accident last month and is doubtful for the start of training camp. It was said that he injured it while jumping over a fence. He damaged a nerve and had surgery on March 1.

Mike McMahon also visited with the Eagles today...

i believe i saw that we lost ike reese to the falcons. thats a pretty big hit, not a started but a big vocal guy and a great leader.

i wanted to see them go after hooshmanzada, i know i just butchered that. i think he would be a pretty good 2nd wide out to owens, he did a good job for chad johnson in cinci, but they signed him up. going after mike williams would make them a superbowl favorite easily.

they really dont need much. here is what i think of them:
[offensively]
as stated andrews can move over to guard. john ritchie is a good fullback, westbrook is a great all around back. mcnabb isnt going anywhere. with the progression of L.J smith he should be better this year. john runyan and tra thomas are two of the better tackles in the league, hank fraley is a good center. they still have chad lewis. only real question is the second reciever. i would love to see them pick up willams. i think pinkston would function well as a third wide out, maybe as the second for the first 5 games or so then move williams up to #2.

[defense]
they signed hugh douglas, who should be healthy and if he isnt we got burgess and mcdougle. i believe we signed up corey simon, and walker still has a few more years on his contract. throw kearse into the mix and thats a very solid d-line. sheldon brown and lito sheppard came along well last year, matt ware will continue to become a good nickleback. linebackers were usually the eagles problem the past few years, along with WR. trotter and jones are solid, i am on the fence about simoneau. the eagles may have the best saftey combo in the league, michael lewis is what i feel to be an emerging star, and dawkins is an already established pro-bowler.

[special teams]
david akers is one of the most accurate kickers to ever be in the league, probally top two in the league along with superbowl counterpart viniteri. dirk johnson is a young punter, he really showed me something in the playoffs( i cant recall what game it was exactly :/), punting into the wind and he killed it 3 times. the other punter had terrible ones. i believe this was against the falcons.
kick returners could improve. i cant recall who ended the season as the returner, hood? or was it mahe?

anyway thats my views on the team up to this point. i really dont notice anything except maybe a decent OLB, just in case simoneau doesnt play like he should, and the second WR. if they address the WR problem i dont see how they cannot be back in the big game

Thank You.

Anyway, the Birds signed McMahon to a two-year contract over the weekend, a nice replacement for veteran backup Jeff Blake. Most likely easily signed because of Eagles assistant, Marty Mornhinweg, the former head coach of the Detroit Lions.

Rumors have been floating that Plaxico Burress is interested in possibly joining the Eagles. Let's hope these rumors hold true.

Derrick Burgess signed with the Oakland Raiders. A website called Burgess an integral part of Philly's defense last season. Actually I can only remember Burgess doing anything special at all in one game in the past 4 years!!

didnt know burgess signed with oakland. but he isnt that big of a loss. douglas and mcdougle will easily be able to make up for his production. burress would be a great 2nd reciever for mcnabb. if they sign him, i dont see anything but themselves stopping themselves from being back into the super bowl
