Boys will be boys!!! I think the whole thing is blown way out of control. Ive been bought many a beer cause I took care of a player(hockey) that someone wanted roughed up. By take care,I mean punched with glove on,or slashed,or butt-ended,not to end their playing days. Tell me Papa Bear Halas himself didnt put a bounty on anyone,it happened all the time. All this politically correct Bull makes me puke!

The only thing I don't like about this is that they are basically trying to injure on every play already...

What I really want to know is if these guys would have thrown some of the hits they did, had their been no "bonus" involved.

I can't recall a hit where a player went out of their way, or out of the normal frame of a play, to throw an injury causing hit.

Imagine if this happened in the 1970's...I gurantee the Steelers would NEVER have won all 4 of those titles. Could you imagine that Steelers D without LC Greenwood and Jack Lambert at least half the season!

I don't mind the penalties I think it sends a solid message, something the NHL has done with Torres and Cooke, but it sort of seems like they picked the 4 that offered money and not the ones who executed the plan. I feel like Vilma is just taking about 4 other guys suspensions.

Yeah, keep your bounties a hell of a lot quieter than the Saints did!

You can't compare the 1970's style with now. It's a totally different game!

Gone are head slaps, crackback blocks, chop blocks, holding up players to get blastered, the game is much cleaner today and the way they played in the early 1970's was approved!
Look at football in the 1950's before they outlawed the forward progress rule where a runner wasn't down until he was almost killed!
The 1950's would make the 1970's look tame and now is the same thing! In the 1950's the receivers would be closelined coming over the middle or they would run the defensive backs into the goal posts almost killing them. The QB's were fair game!
The game now is much much cleaner but the players are so damn big that the collisions are much more impacting despite being cleaner!

That's the problem though. The NFL is pretty much punishing them for lying. Not so much for the bounties. I'm sure there are many more they know of too.

I wonder if Chilly still thinks Sean Payton knew nothing of the bounty program?

I know it sounds like hindsight but i remember the saints/viking game and how vicious the saints were coming after Favre. I was thinking "wow they are trying to hurt this guy".
The game of football is by design a vicious game. No need for "bounties" but it's all about the ego of greg williams nothing more.

You and I both remember that.

But, I also know this - it's the ****ing playoffs. Go after the QB with reckless abandon and try to get him out of the game. You would have to be blind, deaf, dumb and naive to think defenses don't try to do this through the playoffs.

Whatever it takes to win, and trying to knock out a QB falls into that scope.

this isn't a saints thing, this is a gregg williams thing.

someone can know things about a situation but not be directly involved, it is possible.
The head coach is responsible for what goes on with a football team.

this is "a saints thing".

this is why, chilly, the GM, coach's and players were suspended.
