Joe Montana tasting some Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick defense in the playoffs:

Second Leonard Marshall:

The Giants defense has never been the same since Bill Parcells resigned in 1991 after his 2nd SB win and boy could Eli Manning use the defense that Phil Simms played with under Parcells!

Sapp? LOL.

I guess being on TV has more influence than I originally imagined.

How do you think Michael Irvan made it in so quickly? Really is a terrible pick, and Haley or Strahan should be in there wayyyyy before Sapp.

I'd take Will Shields over Sapp. Sapp was great because of the talent around him and how long they stayed together. Wasn't even top 3 on that defense.

Not much of a problem here - I thought Brown was slightly better than Carter, but it's not as if I didn't see CC as a HoFer; I also think Brown hurt himself with his recent comments.

I thought Sapp was pretty nasty - at least in the same ballpark as Strahan at his position; I didn't think he was quite as deserving as some others this year, however.

Sapp was good, of course, but a first-time ballot HOF'er? Nah.

Yeah, I don't necessarily disagree with you here.

Really? Michael Irvin didn't pass your eyeball test? I have him as one of the top 5 receivers I ever saw, and one of the only guys (Al Toon being the other) I thought was better than Rice for a brief period of time (two, maybe three seasons in the early 90s) during their respective primes. He was a huge impact player on those Cowboy SB teams. I have ZERO problem with his quick induction.

As a big fan of Haley, I don't think I would place him AHEAD of Sapp - I've got all three - him, Sapp, and Strahan - jumbled pretty much together.

Agree with you on Shields over Sapp, but I thought it would be tough to get two offensive linemen in this year - regardless of how great Allen and Ogden were - let alone three.

Evidently the writers debated Parcells for an hour? I have no clue what the debate was all about? He dominated Walsh and Gibbs in the playoffs and dominated the Joe Montana 49ers and his coaching tree is impressive.
Hell Coughlin, Payton and Belichick have won 6 SB's and made 8 trips as HC in addition to the trips and wins as Parcells assistants!
He also took over horrible teams in all his stops and made them winners? The Giants were not good when he took over and after his 1983 first season built a powerhouse team! The Pats were a disaster when he took over and they were decent with a SB loss when he left!
The Jets won one game when he took over and went 9-7 in his first season, and the Cowboys were a joke when he took over and he made them winners also when he left!
What more does a coach need to do?

Sapp was in a defense with guys that will be joining him in Canton one day, and honestly I think that is what made him so good. Strahan and Haley were beasts. Sapp had his moments, but those guys were great til the day they retired. I'd take John Randle over Sapp.

OL just don't get enough credit yet they are the glue that make a lot of teams.

As far as Irvin that's your opinion and I feel if your going to take personal comments or decisions, such as Brown, then Irvin should have his put against him as well.

No, no, I'm not saying I hold Brown's comments against him, just that it's plausible the voters might have. Brown was one of the 5 modern day guys I thought should've made it this year.

I, too, would take Randle over Sapp, but they're in the same stadium, so to speak.

Agreed, all I know is you had to always find where the hell Charles Haley was and he is getting the Richard Dent treatment I guess and Strahan was a hell of a pass rusher but was also great against the run!
The PFHOF is a tough assignment with many excellent candidates but I see Haley and Strahan ahead of Saap! I'm not knocking Saap but I would make him wait. He wasn't a first ballot obvious guy like a Reggie White was who played all over the line or obvious DT's like Lilly, and Olsen!
BTW, How the hell was Alan Page not a first ballot pick?

How about because he was mediocre everywhere he coached other than the powerhouse Giants teams. I would've left him out this year, there were more deserving candidates. Coaching in general is extremely overrated in sports, when it comes down to it, it's the players who win the games not the coaches. I do thikn Parcells is a hof level coach but I would've made him wait another year or two when there's so many players that deserve to be in right now.

You must hate Sapp to think this way. He was every bit as good as Strahan, and better than Haley but I guess since he has an abrasive attitude you can pretend he didn't dominate out there.

BTW, Paul Warfield was one of the great receivers of all time but he played in a run orientated era and also with all the nasty defensive play that isn't allowed since 1974.
Every 5 passes he caught a TD and averaged over 20 yards a catch for his career! I'd take Warfield over Moss all the time and Warfield was a good guy also! He'd be scoring over 20 tds a season with today's rules and 16 game season!
In 1970 and 1971, he caught 71 passes for 1699 yards and 17 tds with the Dolphins ball control run dominated offense!
How does 23.9 yards a catch sound and a TD ever 4.17 catches?
Ole number 42 Paul Warfield was great!
