Looks like the Chiefs have parted ways with GM Scott Pioli.

Official: Reid to Kansas City for Five Years

Quote:
One of the first coaches fired is the first to be hired.

Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement only a few hours after general manager Scott Pioli was fired Friday.

Reid signed a five-year deal that includes authority over all football decisions, agent Bob LaMonte told USA TODAY Sports. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Chiefs have scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. ET Monday to introduce Reid.

"You've got a man who was chief cook and bottle-washer for so many years," LaMonte said. "He's used to that. At the end of the day, you want to keep that up."

Reid flew to Kansas City on Friday afternoon with his wife, Tammy, and Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt. He arrived at the team's facility to finish the finer points of the contract and become acclimated to his new workplace.

LaMonte said that as the talks progressed with the Chiefs, Reid quickly decided that he did not want to engage in a bidding war with the other teams that he talked with, the Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers.

"The bottom line was that there was only one job that he wanted." LaMonte said. "That's why we didn't fool around."
Looks like Reid will have as much control in KC as he did in Philly.

Good for Reid. I wish him the best. The Negadelphian in me and my disdain for the Eagles lifeless front office hopes he wins a Super Bowl before the Eagles.

I'm on the other side of the fence. I'm glad he didn't go to the Cards. I'm not a big Andy Reid fan. That said, I'm not confident the Cardinals will make a better choice than Reid would have been. I guess I'm still of the belief that Whisenhunt shouldn't have been fired.

Chip Kelley and Browns "close" to making deal. Buffalo fans were excited to have a chance to get a big name coach... maybe Lovie Smith will be their next target.

chip kelly would be a huge waste in cleveland, they are a team built on power. Kelly is a coach that uses speed. He best fit is philly or a team like buffalo with cj spiller

It won't happen right away, but with a couple of draft years/trades/signings they can quickly transform. Really the only staple on the team should be Trent Richardson, who is plenty fast.

That said, I think Kelly will only bring parts of his system to the NFL. I would like to see what he can do with Cleveland.

as a skins fan i would love to see what he could do in philly moreso then cleveland. It will certainly take awhile and a few drafts. But he has much more to work with in philly. Everyone goes to cleveland to die pretty much

Thats true. Philly would be a team more set up for him right now.

I'm a Cleveland fan, so more excited for him than another no-name coach. But the new owner and GM have to give him some time. In the past the Browns give coachs and QBs about a year and a half to prove themselves, which isn't enough time with their talent.

i'm skeptical on kelly going straight to being a head coach...i think he has the mike martz mind on offense but as shown by martz, it doesn't always translate to being a head coach in the nfl.

kelly is making a mistake by leaving oregon imo

Reid looks emotionally and physically exhausted & drained. I can't see him doing well in KC. He looks like a guy who could use a couple years off to re-group and relax and come back refreshed.

Dude looks worn out.

The scary thing is he looked all of that while with Philadelphia. Can you imagine how much worse it's going to be in KC?
