What a big win today. We needed this game in the worst way.
For most of the day it looked like the Twins were destined to fail because they had so many scoring opportunities and they ran into a couple of outs. Once Slowey left the game I figured our bullpen would get shelled by the Tigers bats and for a change they didn't.

However, as much as the Twins hit today there were some things that left me shaking my head. For the second day in a row Punto had a brain cramp on the bases and at that point I figured we were done. That was further punctuated when Span was throw out at third about one minute later. I don't care that Punto is hitting right now, I still don't like seeing his name on the lineup card day after day. Gardy is nuts about him, though....

In any event, the TWins clawed their way back and thanks to an ineffective Todd Jones, an error by the rookie Joyce in RF along with the hitting of Denard Span and Justin Morneau the game was pulled out in the end.

Great win today. Perhaps this team has a little more gumption than I originally believed. I don't profess playoffs or a wild card spot, but as of today I am mildly impressed with how this team has managed to keep its head above water. We will see what happens I guess.

A short aside.....
I see now that Richie Sexon has been released. The Mariners are responsible for his money and there is still 7 million left on his contract. No doubt some Twins fans might see this as an opportunity, but honestly.......could Richie Sexon help us?

We rip this guy apart, but boy has he come in and played VERY well... Nick Punto.

Batting very well (I don't think he's had a hitless game in a month), and playing extremely well in the field. Great to get some support from bench guys like that, when guys like Mike Lamb fall flat on their face.

3 runs short of a 4 game sweep over the Tiggers... mother ****er.

Poor Nick became victim to an unearned run and another worthless bullpen outing...

Quite a showing at the HR derby last night.

Congrats to Justin for taking it home.

I was also wondering if the Twins would make a move for Sexson. I wouldn't be upset if we took a chance on him. He can't be any worse than Craig Monroe DH-ing. I read that the Yankees are expected to go after him somewhat, so that may just put the Kaibash on us getting him. I also read in the paper that we contacted the Mariners about acquiring Adrian Beltre.

Great game from Justin and Joey Nathan last night.

Mauer didn't look overly good, but that happens. I'm sure he'll have many more all star games to make an impact.

Look at that... first game back from the break, and Perk keeps us rolling with a gem.

We shutout the Rangers, in case you haven't followed along this year, that is a hell of an accomplishment, seeing how its the first time its been done all season long.

Lets go boys!

I have a question for you twins fans. Were you guys offended watching the home run derby? I cant remember wich commentator said it, but when morneu came up he said how did he get chosen. Then back peddled and said justin is a great player, but then went on to say not enough hispanics were in the derby.

I was just curious, because it came off really disrespectful towards justin and his fans. Twinkies fans thoughts on this. Did I take it the wrong way?

Over on mlb.com there was some outrage on the Twins board, but it didn't bother me at all. I just think ESPN is the scum of the earth and whatever they say means absolutely nothing to me. That's what I told everyone there. I said to them, "SHUT UP and stop whining like little babies! Since when is ESPN worthy of our attention? They are a third rate operation and have no credibility'

So...........
Were those comments about '8 white guys and not enough hispanics' and the stuff about Morneau in poor taste? Absolutely.....But I put down the scorecard long ago. They lowered to bar years and years ago to the point where they aren't even a valid source of news anymore. As far as I am concerned they can all take it in the ass with sand lubrication. I don't give a good Goddamn what they say because I am not even listening. It's just too bad the planes hit the towers instead of ESPN buildings in Bristol, CT.

Poor Scott. Kid seems to always be on the wrong end of a lackluster offensive performance... and a 1-0 loss is about as ****ty as it gets.

Lefty - I didn't even register the comments. I remember listening to them, and asking my buddy who was watching it with me, what he thought about it. But after that, I completely disregarded it. The whole derby, IMO, was a slap in Justin's face. But, thats about what I expected.

In any event, begin a HUGE series with the Yankees tonight... Nick Blackburn vs. Cindy Ponson.

Is it time now to call up Liriano and move Perkins to the pen again?

I'm not saying Perkins is a bad pitcher, or deserves it - or anything like that. But, we could definitely use him at the end of games.

Gardenhire at Yankee Stadium:

2008: 0-3
2007: 1-3
2006: 1-2
2005: 1-2
2004: 0-3
2003: 0-3
2002: 0-3

3 wins and 19 losses. Are you kidding me?
Are the Yankees THAT MUCH better or is there something else afoot here?
I have to blame Gardenhire for this.
Tom Kelly managed to do this at Yankee Stadium in his last 7 seasons:

2001: 2-1
2000: 2-1
1999: 2-2
1998: 1-2
1997: 2-3
1996: 1-2
1995: 2-2

The record for Kelly was 12-13 which is very respectable! At least Kelly had the guys playing with PRIDE when they went to NY. These were some very tough Yankee teams and the Twins were pretty bad back then. How come they showed up in those days under Tom Kelly and they aren’t able to do so now?

My take is that Gardy has them playing the game like a bunch of Eeyores. I could just hear him in the clubhouse telling the boys not to do too much and constantly reminding them that the Yankees have Hall of Famers and other such garbage.

Whatever the case, these guys play AND look as if they can’t win when they go there. I can’t put my finger on it, but this all started as soon as Gardy took over. What do you think of my theory?

---------------------------------------------

Oh, and the junk with Liriano is getting a bit maddening. This isn't rocket science. You give your team the best chance to win. I say send Bass down, put Livan in the pen (available to spot start also) and BRING UP LIRIANO already! The way the braintrust views Livan is silly. He was decent for a while, but he's getting shelled consistenly. He needs a much smaller role and Liriano's talents should be working for us NOW.

Gomez also needs to be seriously evaluated. Once Cuddy comes back I think he should platoon in CF with Span.....or something. No way THAT GUY should have the most ABs of anyone on the team. He's just too overmatched and incompetent at the plate. And it's getting harder and harder to watch to quite honest with you.

What a gem from Slowey last night. Wow. Great ****ing performance, and good to see us smack around a typical Twin Killer.

Need another big game from Perks tonight in order for us to finally catch the Sox.
