After all the steroids Juan consumed over the years while playing with players such as Jose Canseco, Rafeal Palmeiro and Ivan Rodriquez, it's come to no surprise that Juan blows his hammy every game he plays. He's finished, and should have retired years ago. Brutal signing as he won't play over 25 games for Boston.

As for the Wily Mo Pena deal, Tony's kid has some promise to him. If he plays a full season, he'll easily go 30HR, 100RBI.

Boston doesn't have a solid CF yet, I'm hoping with his success in the WBC, Adam Stern gets a shot. But for now, Ramirez, Nixon, and Pena seem like a solid 3....at-bat anyways.

He is a guy who hit 26 homers in 110 games last year. He can't hit his weight for avg.. I never heard of him before this trade though...i'm just looking at his numbers. hitting 26 HR's in Cincy is a long way from sucess in Boston.

I believe Cocco Crisp will be the starting center fielder for the sox

the starting outfield will be ramirez, nixon, and crisp, as for pena he will back up nixon and ramirez, because we all know nixon has had some injury problems in the past few seasons. i think pena is a great player, he was unjured for a while last season which is why his numbers are low.

i have followed him while he played for the reds and he is a beast at the plate, i think he is a great addition to the sox lineup.

Juan Gonzalez has it in his contract that if he plays 5 games this year, he gets a bonus and keeps earning bonuses for every 5 games he plays. The odds in Vegas are 50/50 that he'll get to 5 games this season.
What a waste!

"Down by the river......Boston, you're my home!"

So, what are all you Sox fans going to do with that Covering the Bases CD?

Good thing Arroyo is out of my hair. He'll be lucky to win as many games for Cincinnatti this year. A 4.50 ERA won't get it done on most teams.....he just happened to play on a team with a loaded lineup. Yes, the Reds have some decent punch, but their pitching still sucks and Arroyo will not be the guy to turn that around anytime soon.

As far as Juan Gonzalez is concerned, I agree that he's a horrible signing. I can't understand what the Sox management was thinking there, but I'm not Theo Epstein, so what do I know?

Juan signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox

as far as Wily Mo, hes 24, never played minor league baseball, and has great power numbers for his age. he only has an upside. once he learns the fundamentals and starts getting more at-bats i think he could be a superstar

Where was his power 2 seasons ago when he played in 80 games and had 5 HR's and a very low slugging %? Even at 19 hr's in 110 games last year is ok but hardly great power #'s

Willy Mo Pena is a decent player, though he does strike out way too much. Him platooning with Nixon or being a fourth outfielder is a pretty good deal for the Sawks.
But this is a complete scumbag move by the Sawks, in my opinion. Arroyo re-signed with them for under market value to stay in Bahstan, and they used this new contract to increase interest in him. He's a professional, and I guess it's part of the game, but it just rubs me the wrong way.

he was 22 years old then. there arent too many 22 year olds that can put up any kind of power numbers. i'm not saying hes going to be great this season. it will be tough for him to be in the Boston spotlight. he still needs to learn fundamentals. theyre saying he has a great work ethic. they lost a bullpen guy that has been on a decline over the last 2 years. he pitched a lot of innings though. i hate to see him go but i love the chances that Wily Mo becomes a star

btw - i know its spring training. but Wily Mo just hit an absolute rope for a HR against the Yanks

Juans goal this year should be to get at least two at bats before he hurts his hamstraing again. Cleveland payed him like 600k last year for one at bat. Pathetic.

Very funny but also very true. This guy needs a heart like the Lion on the wizard of oz. A total lazy bastid and a waste of talent. Should of had a minimum of 600 homers and 1800 ribbies. Oh well!
