It looks like a great eastern division. Is this the year that the Braves are finally dethroned?

The Braves haven't been picked to win the NL East in like 5 years but they still do it every damn year. I wouldn't be suprised if they do it for the 500th straight time. This year it seems like it could be a possibility for them to finally lose. I can't remember the last time that the entire division was this close this late in the season. Even though I would love to see the Phils do it, I think the Marlins probably have the best chance to pull this thing out, as they have the strongest and most proven pitching staff out of any team in the division.

I must say I am very impressed with this current streak the Phillies are on. I did not think it was possible for them to go on a winning streak of more than 3 games, but they have had back to back 6 game winning streaks on a 12-1 homestand. This was coming off a 7-5 road trip that featured the marlins, Braves, Orioles, and Cardinals. Very impressive. I will say Abreu still gets his numbers, but it has been other guys stepping up to the plate in the big spots. Bell, started off aweful has come around and up'd his average nearly .50 points. Burrell might be this teams MVP right now.

The team has the best batting average in the NL which is quite impressive with all the strike out holes I thought they had. Most impressive of all the Phillies are doing this without and hot Jim Thome. He has had some minor sucess recently but nothing that he is capable of really doing yet.

All that and a cherry on top, Ed Wade has made a noteworthy trade during the middle of this hot streak. PP traded for Urbina. I like it. PP is a proving closing which will just ad depth to the pen. Yesterday was a prime example of what it could look like. Urbina the 8th Wagner the 9th. Not to mention Madson has been lights out.

I must admit it has been fun lately, but as a Philadelphian I must reserve my final judgement until crunch time. If Wade can get one more pitcher to solidify this rotation around the trade deadline, I will back them 100%, thats a 90 degree turn around from the way I felt 30 days ago.

It's my fault.
I praised Abreu and how the phillies had excellent potential and all the Phillies fans basically said I was nuts and now look what has happened!

You can continually praise Abreu, he puts up great numbers. Thats not our knock on the guy. We will praise him even more when he comes up big in clutch situations.

But then again, the Phillies are playing up to their potential now which I think is very impressive considering they have not done it in 12 years. When its crunch time and they finally come through, I will be even more impressed, until they US philly fans have the right to hold judgement.

All this talk about T.O. and the Eagles and it seems that we have forgotten that our Phightins as of right now are in the playoffs!

If we do indeed hold onto the Wild Card or possibly surpass the Braves in the East, do the Phils have what it takes to make some noise this year?

I heard it before....

I refused to really jump on board, I kept telling myself this is nothing new, they do it every year.

If they had Leyland as the manager they would be sitting atop the division. Sorry Uncle Charlie.

How could any of you Philly guys get sucked in? This was going to happen and we all knew it. It's like a sports car in the snow. Sure it's expensive and has some nice stuff in it, but once the weather gets cold and there is ice on the ground it's useless because of how it is built. Much like the Phillies. I wasn't expecting anything other then a total failure.

Well, I do love baseball and the thought of some meaningful baseball in September got me excited. Plus no hockey and my hate of basketball left me empty. Football's here, and hockey is back so I am done with baseball.

We should all thank the Phils. Every year they manage to suck and fall out of contention just in time for the Eagles season so we can focus our attention 100% on a team with good ownership and leadership that actually has players who know fundamentals and a coach who isn't senile. Go Birds!!!!

You miss first base ina crucial situation, then you get picked off in a even more crucial situation. Jimmy enoughs enough already, you use to be so fundamental, wha the fuk happened?

Great race but Urbina would worry me. Good Luck to the Phillies over Houston. I never forgave Clemens for his bullsh*t and lies with Piazza so I'm pulling for the Phillies to win the wildcard even though I'm a Mets fan!
By the way the National East Division with 5 teams at least .500 records.
Good year for the division!
