Mets Trade Dickey to Blue Jays

The Mets are said to be in trade discussions for the 38-year-old knuckleballer.

Dickey is entering the final year of his contract, which makes him an attractive trade chip for the rebuilding Mets.

The Blue Jays continue to be linked with the veteran starter. One package that has been rumoured includes catcher J.P. Arencibia and outfielder Anthony Gose.

The 2012 NL CY Young winner went 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 230 strikeouts in 233.2 innings last season for the Mets.

seems like teams have ramped up efforts on ra dickey. #mets keeping options open, but trade appears more likely.

Arencibia and gose were mentioned in dickey trade talk. Would be realistic package if that's it. #jays #mets

Blue jays want to keep d'arnaud but have arencibia and others. Also have OFs. Trade seems like strong possibility.

Toronto loses that deal by a mile if they do that.

How so? They would get to keep D'Arnaud. No sense in keeping both him and Arencibia. Plus, having a knuckle-baller in the rotation is never bad. It worked for Boston with Wakefield.

Well mostly I just think Dickey is a fluke. A real flash in the pan. Great career story but nothing special as a pitcher. Is D'Arnaud ready to be the full time catcher? It still wouldn't hurt to have both him and Arencibia on the roster. Gose was a highly-touted Phillies prospect who went to Toronto for Roy Halladay. I haven't kept up on his progress, but I believe he is still a better player to have than Dickey. Let the young guy grow instead of trading him for a pitcher who won't replicate his 2012 numbers and who is only going to give you one year.

Toronto has made good moves this offseason. In my opinion, this would not be one of them. Long term, Toronto loses this deal...

this shows how out of touch you are...comparing wakefield who was loved and a grizzled old vet over a long period of time to a one year wonder who did not a thing prior to this past season.

plus this trade is nowhere close to being done either which makes the title very misleading as well

Did wakefield ever have a season like Dickey. Dickey is a late bloomer who did it in New york.

Is the best you can say about Wakefield is that he's a "loved and grizzled old vet".

who's out of touch?

Sorry Ebenezer.

dickey did it in a pitchers park while wakefield was at fenway for all those years. he did whatever the team needed for them to succeed. dickey is a one year wonder who is now thinking he is god's greatest gift to a team. so comparison is dumb.

so what that he has a knuckle ball...it flies out of the park easy as well, just ask wakefield who gave up over 400 hr's in his career.

Dickey's ERA the last 3 years -
2012 - 2.73
2011 - 3.28
2010 - 2.84

I really don't know these players from Toronto but being a Met fan (:() I hope they are good and the trade would work out for both teams. Dickey had his best year last year but he has been solid the last three years so I don't think one year wonder or flash in the pan fit him. He did not start as a knuckle-baller so it seems he has been perfecting the pitch and has it down now. His fastball is 85 which I don't think Wakefield ever hit so that comparison may indeed be off.

My only worries if I was a Blue Jay fan would be the AL East and the weather. His knuckler seemed to be better in humid conditions. I think he would be ok though.

pesadillamal 12-14-2012 06:16 PM

Dickey's home and away stats were almost identical last year.

125 innings at home - 12 homers

108 innings on the road - 12 homers

I understand Dickey became a fan favorite with Mets fans, but I honestly think we've just seen the best they're going to get out of him. Which, by the way, would be a great season for any pitcher. I just think the Mets should strike while the iron is hot and trade him if possible. That would be a solid return from Toronto for Dickey. I think the Mets win that trade, at least in the long term if not this season.

Would weather conditions be that much different?

Toronto, NYC, Boston, Baltimore, Tampa

Philly, NYC, Atlanta, Washington, Miami.

I was just thinking about his home games and I have no idea Belak. Does Toronto get over 90 degrees with very high humidity consistently?

I actually agree with you but that is why I think the trade could help both teams. With the moves the Jays have made it seems obvious they are going for it now, while the Mets are trying to build a strong core of young players to be contenders in the future.

I read D'Arnaud would be going to the Mets. ON tsn.ca
