The Detroit Tigers Thread

The best record in baseball.

Had some twinkies for dessert last night.

Who's your Tiger?

Leyland is a great coach! The guy knows how to get the best out of his players. Good to see Magglio Ordonez stay healthy and prove he is still a top notch player.

Detroit's regular season record is tremendous but what will happen come playoff time? The fact remains that the current pitching staff is unproven in the second season and I believe only Kenny Rogers is the only pitcher with playoff experience(and the nightmares for Yankee/Mets fans having this guy on the mound are still there) The Yankees also battered around Detroit the last time they played so I wouldn't get your hopes up just yet. Don't get me wrong, anyteam who could knock the Yankees out of playoff contention/playoffs is ok with me but don't be disappointed if Detroit folds to the wild card in the first rd.

I hear ya. I didn't say they are the best team in baseball only they have the best record.

They have about 20 games left with the Yanks/White Sox/Red Sox/ and Angels. That will be hugh.

The future looks bright and the future may be this year. Couple of breaks here and there (and they will need some breaks) and you got yourself a Series.

No question Detroit is going to dominate the AL for years to come but it is extremely tough going from a laughingstock/mediocre team to a over night sensation that wins the W.S. There are so many good team in the AL right now that any team that does make it out of that division to play in the series is going to be worn down......which is the hope for us Met fans as I don't think anyone in the NL is going to knock us off come playoff time.

Some real good baseball coming down the stretch. This has defintely been a helluva good year for the national pastime.

Shelton got demoted to AAA.

This is the future of the Tigers, and it's only getting better:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) - Detroit Tigers minor leaguer Alexis Gomez hit four home runs in the Class AAA Toledo Mud Hens' 15-8 victory over the Columbus Clippers on Monday.

Gomez hit a solo homer off Tommy Phelps in the first inning and reached the Clippers' starter for a two-run shot in the fourth. He added another solo home run off Colter Bean in the sixth and capped his career performance with a solo blast against Jesus Colome in the ninth.

Entering the game with just three home runs on the season, Gomez went 4-for-5 with a walk, scored four runs and drove in five.

Gomez, who turned 28 on Sunday, has appeared in 48 games for the Tigers this season, hitting .265 with one homer and six RBI.

Well, the Tigers went down yesterday but, today is a new day.

Doing some rough math; if the Tigers play .500 ball for the rest of the season then the White Sox or Twins must play .700+ ball to catch them.

I like the Tigers chances. Only a complete collapse will stop them from getting to the playoffs.

I have suffered through so many awful years here in detroit watching the clawless tigers play. This year is different. I am planning my pdo time at work for playoff ball, but I am very cautious. We are one pitching injury away from a possible fall. Until then, go tigers

That may very well be true. We'll see. If the Tigers finish with the best record they would play the Winner out of the West in the first round I think.

Just for the Tigers to get in the playoffs would be a successful season based upon the previous 10+ years.

They're young and have a bright future. Not to mention they signed that kid out of UNC. Staff is loaded. Nice.

Yeah, OK....I just wanted to stick a burr in your saddle there. You didn't bite.

Anyway, some good baseball is being played the central. The White Sox put up a good fight against the Yankees last night and almost got to Rivera again. Earlier in the season the Twins took down Mariano as well.

That is what you are going to have to do. Take down Mariano with one of those Tiger comebacks in the 9th and it will show the pompus NY fan that your team means business. In NY, Yankee fans don't take the Tigers seriously (like you care). They see that the Yankees and Red Sox dusted the Tigers off earlier in the year and fall back on that. The central is not quite getting the respect here, if you can believe that.

As far as my Twins go, they try. Too many injuries and not enough depth, but they are, I don't know how, keeping pace. I don't think they have the horses, but I will keep the faith.
I may be inclined to root for Detroit come playoff time as I am sick of the Yankees. This may cause jkidd to send me a nasty PM

A fabulous year, no-doubt. Its a good thing they played awesome ball in the first half of the season-they hit a loosing skid and are still in solid shape with 6.5 games ahead of the Chi-sox. Their not quite there yet-playing against the big boys. They're 3-8 against Chicago this season, and have under .500 records against Yanks and Bo-Sox. Hopefully- they will stop with the errors/un-earned runs and play solid again.

Got Spanked in Chicago.

On to Boston. Relief coming in the form of the Rangers at home after Boston.

Pressure mounting?
