Blue Jays and Marlins Make Big Trade

Another major salary dump by the Marlins. And they say ex-Dodgers owner Frank McCourt was doing shady dealings? How about an investigation of Jeffrey Loria?
This leaves the only recognizable name on the roster as Giancarlo Stanton. |
According to Sportsnet, Henderson Alvarez, Adeiny Hechavarria, and Yunel Escobar are headed the other way to Miami.
Finally Toronto is serious about competing in the AL East. |
Escobar, Hechavarria, Alvarez, Nicolino to Miami for Buerhle, Johnson, Reyes, Buck is now official. Arencibia or Mathis to Miami is rumoured. More names will be revealed soon.
|
So pumped about this! I'm assuming Arencibia or D'Arnaud will probably be included as we got Buck and we now have 5 capable catchers.
|
Also heard Blue Jays will be including OF prospect Jake Marisnick.

Projected Starting rotation gives me goosebumps..

Looks like the deal will be the following:
TOR trades Yunel Escobar, Henderson Alvarez, Adeny Hechavarria, Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick, Jeff Mathis and Anthony DeSclafani to MIA for Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, Jose Reyes, John Buck and Emilio Bonifacio. |
Good to see the Jays getting serious about putting together a contender. Maybe if the NHL doesn't return this season more people in TO will follow and attend the Jays games next season.
|
Great for the Jays, but this furthers my opinion that the Marlins should have the franchise removed.
|
What a steal for the Jays! The only one I think they might miss is Hechavarria... The starting rotation looks deadly... when healthy, of course. :approve:

HO LEE FUK.
This is a really big day for Toronto. Jays take on some massive salary and show some seriousness in competing (for a wild card spot at least). There's been a lot of talk for the last several seasons around here, now we've got some action. Good job AA. Jason Bay anyone? |
Buherle has a horrible record against the AL east, Johnson 2nd year off tommy john surgery, he still may be decent though. The only sure thing will be Reyes. 150 million a lot of money.
