The 2012 New York Mets cut the payroll thread

I have been watching this years team in Florida on SNY and it looks really bad. I have no hope and so what did I just see on SNY?
Joe Torre with all his hair telling the Met fans that 1978 is gonna be a really exciting team that will make the Met fans proud.
He said when you start with ball players like:
Lee Mazzilli(.259 lifetime with 93 homers),
Steve Henderson(.280 lifetime with 68 homers) and
Lenny Randle(.257 lifetime with 27 homers)
you really have something and our pitching is much better than people think!

So how did the 1978 Mets do?

66 wins and 96 losses with 66 home runs hit and a .245 batting average.

We may see more homers this season but 66 wins is about right!

Alot of ???? marks for the Mets Bigjack. When will Johan S. return;and how effective will he be? Will J Bay rebound? I had baseball cards of all those Mets you listed,plus others like Kranepool,Milan,Matlack,Milner,etc. Forgot about all those Mets greats!

I didn't realize we were fielding a team this season. I predict them coming close, if not surpassing the 100 loss mark.

life really is hard for a mets fan. if you think about it, when it comes to the rags-isles...the only people who care are hickey fans, and there's not many. but, mets fans have to endure the yankees being great, and the team the nation follows.
i grew up a mets fan, but stopped watching them on a regular basis in the somehwhere around 2004-2006. this year, it seems like the mets don't exist. not even their fans are talking about them and everyone seems to be avoiding them like someone infected with the plague.

I'm in the same boat as you, Godard. I'm sort of a Mets fan (they were my baseball team. This is going to sound weird, but I do sort of like the Yankees too, never understood why Mets-Yanks fans hate each other, but I digress) but it's just too frustrating to watch them play (combined with my interest in baseball decreasing every year). Since blowing the NLCS to the Cards in 06, it's just become painful to support this sorry excuse of a team. I really don't blame any Met fan for saying enough is enough.

Not only all the things that you mentioned but the division is tougher. I expect Washinton to be pretty good and Florida and we already have the Phillies and Braves also!
I just hope that we score some runs so I'm not wearing out my remote control in the 3rd inning!

What about that screwball finger licking nail chomping Pelfry? It's always that he had a hell of a bullpen session and discovered a new pitch and then we watch him and it's the same sh*t!
110 pitches in the 5th inning and the Mets losing 4-1 or some bullsh*t!

Was the Earl of Weaver managing yesterday? 3 homers and solid pitching! Duda with a beautiful swing and Ike better cool it and swing the bat! Wright doing what Wright does when he is locked in!
Two saves for Frank Benitez and I didn't see Parnell pitch at all this spring and was shocked with the transformation yesterday!
Instead of 100 mph and grooved, he was throwing nasty curve balls and pitching at 93-95 and had a dominate inning!
Can he keep up being a pitcher and not a thrower?
Lets hope so!

We started out 5-13 last season so 3-0 is much better thus far! Next game is finger lickin good Pelfry!
