The more I think about it, I'm not sure the voters got this right - it is clear that Trout was the best all round player in MLB this season, and his team did finish with a better record than the Tigers, playing in a tougher division.
The reasons I gave my imaginary vote to Cabrera were because I still like runs scored and RBI (tough sh*t if your teammates stink), the Tigers, not the Angels, made the playoffs (though not Trout's fault), and I still have a slight distrust of the defensive sabermetrics.
That being said, had the Halos, not the Tigers, made the playoffs, or, if the defensive metrics were as legit (read: trustworthy) as the offensive, there is no question I would've thrown my support towards Trout.
